– at 11.05 million euros (up from 9.5 million last year), their funding from the taxation of gamblers’ winnings, exclusively for the operation of the national teams of all ages,

– at 2.5 million. euros is the coverage by the Ministry of Sports (for the first time) of the expenditure corresponding to the annual use of the sports facilities of the NAC, for the training sessions of the National Teams, which until last year was charged to the Federations.

The Deputy Minister of Sports, Giannis Vroutsis, said: “The substantial support of the grassroots of Greek sports is a clear political choice of the government and the Prime Minister himself, Kyriakos Mitsotakis. This year, for the first time in almost two decades, our total expenditure to the Federations of amateur sport now stands at €31.3 million, recording a 15.5% increase compared to last year and is almost double what we received in 2019. With increased resources from the regular subsidy and from the taxation of players’ winnings from betting, we are steadily strengthening the Federations with transparency and institutional consistency. Amateur sport cannot and must not and must not rely on random, piecemeal or ad hoc policies. It needs a plan, which we implement every day, continuity, accountability and real resources. This is what we are putting into practice. We now have stable financial tools for a sport with solid foundations and prospects.”
