In early June he will draw for SYRIZA and the next day, a few days after Alexis Tsipras announces his new party.
Socrates Famellos has set the Political Secretariat to convene on June 4 and the SYRIZA Political Committee on June 6. And they may be the most crucial meetings since the party’s creation.
According to reports, Socrates Famellos is expected to officially open his cards to the two bodies and in a final and irrevocable manner. That is why he is convening the two bodies together, a few days after Alexis Tsipras‘s announcements, in order to pass his proposal in an institutional way.
The president of Syriza will propose that the party should not run in the elections and that there should be some kind of integration into the former prime minister’s new project. Which will eventually be a Syriazas 2.0, as only the façade will change.
In addition, the meetings will be crucial because Pavlos Polakis intends to rock the boat and participate, despite his deletion and Koumoundourou’s leaks. It is said that he, along with Nikos Pappas and Rena Dourou are forming a common front, wishing Syriza to run in the elections as normal.
In short, at the moment Syriza is deeply divided while Alexis Tsipras is ready to accept his former comrades but not all of them. And the latter is the main point of friction, as those left behind must secure their political presence through SYRIZA and the assets it has: funding, resources and organisations.
The latest reports suggest that a wave of resignations is coming from Koumoundourou: Dionysis Teboneras announced his resignation from the party today, while reports say that Kostas Zachariadis, the party’s press spokesman, is also resigning in the next few days.
Once again, Alexis Tsipras is causing division and splits on the left to serve his personal ambitions, knowing that most Syriza cadres will accept anything to secure their political future.
