People poured into the streets of Piraeus, Attica and all the major cities of Greece at the end of the game, as Olympiacos was crowned European basketball champion over Real Madrid.
Olympiacos managed to lift the Cup of European Champions after 26 years. The last half was breathtaking until the game was nearing its end, as Olympiacos managed to maintain a solid lead over Real Madrid. Thus, Olympiacos dominated with a 90 – 85 victory over Real Madrid. This was Olympiacos’ fourth win in the Euroleague.
“In life there is nothing easy. Everything that is conquered with effort has value,” said Jiorgos Bartzokas, coach of Olympiacos, leaving the court after the cup was awarded. There was also great emotion for the owners of OlympiacosKAE, Angellopoulos, who stepped on the podium with the players to lift the European champion’s cup.
