From 09:00 to 19:00, in a relaxed, summer setting, visitors will have the opportunity to participate in a voluntary blood donation and register as a volunteer bone marrow donor.<\/p>\n<p>The process is simpler than most people imagine:<b>a few minutes are all it takes to become either a volunteer blood donor,<\/b> or a new bone marrow donor, a move of great value as only 65% of blood needs are met in Greece, and one in three patients cannot find a compatible marrow donor.<\/p>\n<p>Registering as a <b>volunteer bone marrow donor<\/b> is now a very simple process, a saliva sample is all that is needed, while donation, when needed, is in most cases done in a similar way to blood donation, without surgery. Its focus is on strengthening voluntary blood donation, increasing the number of bone marrow donors and promoting prevention and early diagnosis.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, the programme includes preventive cancer screening activities, while a highlight is the complete renovation of the Piraeus General Cancer Hospital &#8220;Metaxas&#8221;.
