The Board of Directors of the EESHA<\/b> sadly bids farewell to journalist Nikolaos (Nikos) Serveta<\/b>, who passed away suddenly yesterday at the age of 66.<\/p>\n
Nikos Servetas was born in Athens in 1960. From 1980 to the late 1990s, he lived in Sweden, where he studied sociology at the University of Uppsala.<\/b><\/p>\n
He worked as a editor and news anchor<\/b> on Swedish radio and television Greek broadcasts, a commentator for the Swedish TV4 television station, a contributor to Pressens Bild, a correspondent for the Athenian News Agency<\/b> and occasionally a contributor to Greek newspapers and broadcasters based in Stockholm.<\/b><\/p>\n
After his return to Greece, he worked at APE and ERT<\/b> and at the newspapers “Ex\u03bf\u03c5\u03c3\u03af\u03b1”, “The Victory of Democracy”, “Money”, “Epochi”, “City Press” <\/b>and “Documento”.<\/b> In addition, he worked as editorial director at the radio station “En Lefko” <\/b>and at the websites “NetDaily”, “Science Illustrated”<\/b> and participated in the journalistic team of “ForthNet”.<\/b><\/p>\n
He was a member of the Swedish Journalists’ Association (<\/b>SJF 1986-2000) and the Foreign Correspondents’ Association Sweden<\/b> (FPA 1988-1998), of which he was a member of the Board of Directors since 1992. He was also a board member and press officer at the International Short Film Festival<\/b> in Uppsala.<\/p>\n
He translated from Swedish into Greek the book “Listen to White” by the journalist-anthropologist Lars Persson and the books “The Best Intentions”<\/b>and “Sabborn<\/b>” by the director-screenwriter Ingmar Bergman. Also, from Greek to Swedish, the guides “Rethymno” and “Oil, the road to longevity”. He was part of the four-member team that edited the Swedish-Greek Dictionary<\/b>, published in 1999 by an organization equivalent to the Swedish Ministry of Education’s OESB, and was a research associate of the publishing house RiksMedia.<\/p>\n
Nikos Servetas was a colleague of high professionalism, ethics and exemplary behaviour towards his colleagues.<\/b><\/p>\n
He had a long and distinguished career in journalism, which he never treated as merely a livelihood. He had broad knowledge, deep culture and a deep view of life and the public.<\/p>\n
The Board of Directors extends its condolences to his partner Angelica and his beloved children.<\/p>\n
