{"id":10202,"date":"2026-06-11T15:17:00","date_gmt":"2026-06-11T12:17:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/?p=10202"},"modified":"2026-06-11T15:17:00","modified_gmt":"2026-06-11T12:17:00","slug":"tasos-hadjivassiliou-on-greek-turkish-relations-unilateral-actions-do-not-produce-legal-results","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/?p=10202","title":{"rendered":"Tasos Hadjivassiliou on Greek-Turkish relations: Unilateral actions do not produce legal results"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At the <b>meeting<\/b> of <b>Giorgos Gerapetritis<\/b> with <b>Hakhan Fidan<\/b>, as an important step in maintaining communication between <b>Greece<\/b> and <b>Turkey<\/b>, was mentioned by <strong>Tassos Hadjivassiliou<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p>Talking to SKAI, the new <b>deputy foreign minister<\/b> said that &#8220;Mr. Gerapetritis made it clear in his meeting with Mr. Fidan that <b>unilateral actions, such as those that Turkey with the &#8220;Blue Homeland&#8221; law, on the one hand do not help to maintain a good climate and on the other hand do not produce legal results<\/b>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. <b>Hatzivassiliou<\/b> stressed that <b>the meeting of the two ministers &#8220;rightly took place<\/b>&#8220;, as <b>Greece believes that the channel of communication with Turkey must remain open<\/b>, despite disagreements and difficulties. As he noted, &#8220;it is a policy of responsibility to talk to Turkey, but <b>we do not ignore that unilateral actions, such as the planned &#8220;Blue Homeland&#8221; law, cannot produce results recognized by the international community<\/b>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>He continued, <b>Hatzivassiliou<\/b> raised the fundamental question of how Turkey can consider regulating issues of international law, such as maritime zones, through national legislation. &#8220;<b>This is simply not possible<\/b>,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Further, <b>Hatzivassiliou<\/b> referred to Turkey&#8217;s <b>position in the Eastern Mediterranean<\/b>, noting that Ankara is probably misreading reality: &#8220;<b>It is a mistake for Turkey to think that there is a conspiracy against it with Israel as the protagonist and with Greece, Cyprus and other powers in the region as theoretical long arms<\/b>. There is no anti-Turkish alliance or conspiracy,&#8221; he clarified.<\/p>\n<p>In conclusion, <b>Hatzivassiliou<\/b> stressed that <b>Greece is not working on scenarios of military conflicts against third countries<\/b> and <b>is not involved in such plans<\/b>.
