The Minister of National Defense, Nikos Dendias<\/b>, emphasized on Thursday (6\/11) that Greece\u2019s Armed Forces<\/b> are entering a new era with the implementation of the \u201cAgenda 2030<\/b>,\u201d emphasizing infrastructure autonomy and the multiplying power<\/b> resulting from the utilization of new technologies, innovation, and specifically unmanned ground, air, and sea. <\/p>\n
At the same time, he referred to Greek-Turkish<\/b>, the Ukrainian drone<\/b> in Lefkada<\/b> and the apology sought by Kyiv, as well as the political developments<\/b>.<\/p>\n
Nikos Dendias<\/b>, at the 7th Economic Courier Forum on the theme \u201c100 Years of the Economic Courier – From 1926 to the New Digital Era,” held at the Old Tobacco Factory, announced that on Friday morning (6\/12) work will begin in Malakasa on \u201cthe third and largest drone factory<\/b> with the capacity to manufacture tens of thousands per year for air and sea use.\u201d As he clarified, \u201ceverything will be of Greek design,\u201d while \u201censuring affordable access to technology of the highest standard for our country\u2019s Armed Forces.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Minister of National Defense explained that abroad, people often mistakenly seek “the optimal, most technologically advanced solution, at the highest cost and with production delays.” In contrast, the philosophy of the modern Greek Armed Forces focuses on \u201clow cost<\/b> with 3D printers for whatever we need, so that we can cope with crisis conditions.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are building our own infrastructure,\u201d emphasized Nikos Dendias<\/b>, adding that \u201cin collaboration with the Hellenic Center for Defense Innovation (ELKAK), the Armed Forces will be integrated into the Greek defense ecosystem\u201d<\/b>. He described \u201coffset benefits as a sinful parenthesis,\u201d emphasizing that \u201cthey were supposed to function as reinvestment. However, the way they were implemented also created corruption.\u201d<\/p>\n
Regarding the Greek Defense Industry\u2019s participation in defense procurement programs<\/b>, he emphasized that a \u201csimple rule\u201d would be followed, explaining that there would be \u201ca 25% investment of the total amount in Greece<\/b> and, at the same time, there will be a transfer of know-how for every weapons system we purchase.\u201d<\/p>\n
Regarding the issue of the Ukrainian maritime drone in Lefkada<\/b>, Nikos Dendias<\/b> pointed out that \u201cI took the Ukrainian side\u2019s apology as an assurance<\/b> that such a thing will not happen again. There is also an additional issue. The Ukrainian side knew that it had lost control of this drone for many hours. Fundamentally, for the protection of human life, it should have informed us. That did not happen. We found it. So, in any case, I repeat, on the political side, I accept the apology that was offered<\/b>.\u201d<\/p>\n
Regarding the bill concerning the \u201cBlue Homeland\u201d in Turkey<\/b>, Mr. Dendias <\/b>emphasized that \u201cI would hope it doesn\u2019t come to pass. Imagine Greece submitting a bill tomorrow to the Hellenic Parliament<\/b> and placing the Greek borders somewhere, let\u2019s say, in the middle of Turkish territory.\u201d<\/p>\n
Regarding the incident involving the harassment of the aircraft he was traveling on<\/b> during his last visit to Cyprus<\/b>, he stated: \u201cThat was an unpleasant incident. There was no reason for it. I think Turkey had no reason to do it<\/b> nor did it have any reason to scramble F-16s.\u201d<\/p>\n
Regarding Greek-Turkish<\/b> relations, he reiterated that \u201cthe stated threat is real\u201d<\/b>, while \u201cthe scope of claims outside of international law is expanding.\u201d \u201cIt is my constitutional duty to defend my homeland. That is what our Armed Forces do,\u201d he clarified.<\/p>\n
Regarding the EU\u2019s SAFE Regulation<\/b>, he commented that \u201cit is a flawed regulation<\/b>\u201d and explained: \u201cIts purpose is not being served\u201d<\/b>, as it was created to provide the European Union with new equipment capabilities. \u201cYou won\u2019t be able to set up production lines by 2030\u201d<\/b>, he added. \u201cGreece has submitted a defense procurement plan\u2014for the first time in Greek history\u2014covering a 12-year and a 20-year period<\/b>. We will submit any amendments to Parliament shortly. The first revision will be submitted immediately because developments are moving fast. This is what the Europeans must do as well. Not three- or four-year regulations,\u201d he emphasized.<\/p>\n
\u201cGreece must be able to defend itself on its own. There is a real threat. We must be ready. This is the collective responsibility of the political system and, first and foremost, of the government<\/b> and the prime minister,\u201d added the Minister of National Defense.<\/p>\n
Regarding political developments<\/b>, Nikos Dendias<\/b> described the climate as unusual, referring to the creation of new parties, while regarding the polling<\/b> performance of New Democracy<\/b>, he explained that he has recently spoken out several times, emphasizing that \u201cthis should be a cause for concern\u201d<\/b>.<\/p>\n
At the same time, he emphasized that \u201cyesterday, the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis<\/b>, spoke clearly about a first-round victory and a majority government<\/b>. He set the bar exactly where it needs to be. New Democracy is presenting an independent proposal to society. It must strive for a majority government<\/b>.
