With barbs aimed at Antonis Samaras<\/b>, clear lines of demarcation with Kostas Karamanlis<\/b> and assessments of the upcoming elections, former Minister and Member of Parliament for Chania, Dora Bakoyannis, attempted to describe the new political landscape, noting that a new party led by the former Prime Minister<\/b> would not come without a cost for New Democracy.<\/p>\n
Speaking on Thursday (06\/11) on Parapolitika 90.1 radio, Dora Bakoyannis<\/b> emphasized that Antonis Samaras has at times changed his positions, while recalling that he has opposed New Democracy<\/b> in the past. At the same time, she referred to Kostas Karamanlis<\/b>, the upcoming elections, and Alexis Tsipras<\/b>, emphasizing that a new party to the right of New Democracy would inevitably affect<\/b> the political balance.<\/p>\n
Dora Bakoyannis<\/b> insisted that New Democracy<\/b> does not wish to enter the debate regarding \u201cfar-right\u201d former president, but noted that Antonis Samaras<\/b> is a political figure who cannot easily be classified within a single ideological space. Referring to the possibility of forming a new party, she argued that this would be a development that could harm New Democracy<\/b>, even if the party draws strength from other political camps.<\/p>\n
Dora Bakoyannis was particularly sharp when she referred to Antonis Samaras\u2019s historical trajectory<\/b>. As she said, the former Prime Minister has already brought down a New Democracy government in the past<\/b>, later returned to the party and was honored with its leadership, without, however, avoiding, as she argued, the lowest election result in the party\u2019s history. In contrast, regarding Kostas Karamanlis, he noted that he remains deeply institutional<\/b> and that he would never do anything that would harm the party<\/b>. <\/p>\n
The MP from Chania made it clear that the government\u2019s goal remains to secure a majority in the first<\/b> election. As she noted, the country is in an extremely unstable geopolitical environment, and political stability is a prerequisite for addressing these challenges.<\/p>\n
He even estimated that New Democracy can achieve a majority again<\/b>, arguing that citizens will evaluate the government\u2019s work as a whole<\/b>, weighing successes against failures. It acknowledged that there are areas where the government has not achieved its goals, such as the agricultural sector, but argued that in other areas, such as employment and strengthening the National Health System, significant improvements have been made.<\/p>\n
The former minister also harshly criticized PASOK<\/b> for its stance on the process of constitutional revision<\/b>. As she argued, Charilaou Trikoupi is moving away from the institutional tradition<\/b> that has historically characterized the party and is opting for a strategy of rejection even on issues where there is common ground.<\/p>\n
It was even more pointed toward the ELAS<\/b> and personally toward Alexis Tsipras<\/b>. Dora Bakoyannis accused the new party of arrogant behavior<\/b> toward officials it is attempting to court, citing practices that, as she said, offend the political dignity of those currently in SYRIZA<\/b>.<\/p>\n
