{"id":10241,"date":"2026-06-11T19:49:00","date_gmt":"2026-06-11T16:49:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/?p=10241"},"modified":"2026-06-11T19:49:00","modified_gmt":"2026-06-11T16:49:00","slug":"why-donald-trump-wants-irans-harg-island-so-badly-its-significance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/?p=10241","title":{"rendered":"Why Donald Trump Wants Iran&#8217;s Harg Island So Badly &#8211; Its Significance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The tiny <b>island of Harg<\/b>, in the <b>Persian Gulf<\/b>, has found itself in the spotlight  following statements by <b>Trump <\/b>that the <b>U.S.  <\/b>could strike or even occupy the island and other <b>oil<\/b> facilities of <strong>Iran<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Despite its limited size (covering an area roughly one-third the size of Manhattan) <b>it is the most important energy artery of the Iranian economy<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p><b>The Chargh is located just 25 kilometers from the Iranian coast<\/b> and serves as the country\u2019s main crude oil export terminal. <b>Millions of barrels from Iran\u2019s largest oil fields<\/b>, such as Ahvaz, Marun, and Gachsaran, before being loaded onto tankers bound for international markets.<\/p>\n<p>Its strategic importance is enormous, as it is estimated that<b> approximately 90% of Iranian crude oil exports pass through the island<\/b>. With a storage capacity of nearly 30 million barrels and massive port facilities,<b> Kharg is considered the \u201cheart\u201d of Iran\u2019s oil industry and a key pillar of state revenue<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. officials have described it as the \u201c<b>central hub of the entire Iranian oil supply chain<\/b>.\u201d Its long piers extend into deep waters capable of servicing <b>supertankers<\/b>, making it a critical point for loading and exporting oil.<\/p>\n<p>According to CNN, White House officials estimate that <b>the seizure of the island could \u201clead to a complete economic collapse\u201d of Iran\u2019s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps<\/b>, depriving them of key revenue from energy exports.<\/p>\n<p>Although <b>Trump<\/b> had previously stated that <b>Harg \u201cis not high on the list of targets<\/b>,\u201d the idea of seizing it is not new to him. <b>As early as 1988<\/b>, decades before he was elected president, <b>he had publicly mentioned this possibility<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<b>If a single bullet were to hit one of our men or one of our ships, I would strike the island of Harge.
