In a state of heightened alert<\/b> port and police authorities<\/b> were placed on high alert<\/\/b> following a report of a possible explosive device <\/b>on the passenger-car ferry \u201cBlue Star 2\u201d<\/b>, which was on a scheduled route<\/b> to the islands of the Aegean Sea <\/b>and, in accordance with established safety protocols<\/b>, changed course heading to the port of Lavrio<\/b>, where forces from the Coast Guard<\/b>, the Fire Department<\/b>and EKAV<\/b> to conduct extensive inspections of the vessel<\/b> and ensure the safety of the passengers and crew<\/b>.<\/p>\n

An alert was issued to port authorities<\/b> following a report of an explosive device<\/b> being placed on the passenger-car ferry \u201cBlue Star 2\u201d<\/b>, which was on a scheduled route<\/b> from Piraeus to Syros<\/b>, Patmos, Leros, Kalymnos, Kos and Rhodes<\/b>.<\/p>\n

Update<\/h3>\n

According to an update from the Hellenic Coast Guard, the ship has deviated from its course and is heading to the port of Lavrio so that thorough inspections can be carried out by Hellenic Coast Guard bomb disposal experts and a specially trained explosive detection dog.<\/p>\n

According to reports, there are 952 passengers and 98 crew members on board the ship.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, teams from the Fire Department and the National Ambulance Service (EKAV) are heading to the port of Lavrio, while investigations are underway to look into the report.<\/p>\n
