{"id":10664,"date":"2026-06-14T17:12:00","date_gmt":"2026-06-14T14:12:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/?p=10664"},"modified":"2026-06-14T17:12:00","modified_gmt":"2026-06-14T14:12:00","slug":"christos-tentomas-i-am-leaving-the-party-but-i-remain-committed-to-athens","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/?p=10664","title":{"rendered":"Christos Tentomas: I am leaving the party\u2014but I remain committed to Athens"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>His <b>resignation <\/b>from the <b>faction <\/b>with which he was elected to the top three candidates, was announced today at a special event by <b>Christos Tentomas.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>He also announced at the same time that he had resigned from his position as Vice President of the Athens City Council.<\/p>\n<p>In his speech in Athens, in the presence of friends, colleagues, and residents from the city\u2019s neighborhoods, <b>Christos Tentomas<\/b> emphasized that, three years after the last municipal elections, the time has come for a frank assessment of the city\u2019s progress, as well as the performance of those serving Athens, whether in the administration or the opposition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<b>As someone who has served this city continuously for thirty consecutive years, I have learned to look citizens in the eye and tell the truth<\/b>,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n<p>Christos Tentomas strongly criticized the current municipal administration, emphasizing that <b>Athens is experiencing daily deterioration in critical areas<\/b>, such as sanitation, traffic, parking, illegal activity, green spaces, public squares, playgrounds, and the challenges faced by small and medium-sized businesses.<\/p>\n<p>As he noted, \u201cOur Athens lacks an administration that responds to the needs of citizens and the modern challenges it is called upon to address,\u201d while referring to a <b>Municipal Authority<\/b> that \u201c<b>can no longer fulfill even its basic duties and, at the same time, is taking out a loan of 75 million euros<\/b>.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/tomanifesto.cachefly.net\/tomanifesto\/images\/placeholder.png\" alt=\"tentomas-xrhstos-sygkentrosh-1.jpg\" data-dpc-media-id=\"190461\" class=\"lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/tomanifesto.cachefly.net\/image\/large\/96\/tentomas-xrhstos-sygkentrosh-1.jpg\"><\/figure>\n<p>Referring to his own career and the role of the Official Opposition, Christos Tentomas emphasized that <b>Athens needs a new opposition dynamic, with more substance, presence, and connection with citizens<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<b>Criticism alone is not enough<\/b>. <b>We need a modern, alternative vision that will inspire the people of Athens once again<\/b>,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n<p>In this context, he announced his decision to leave the party, as well as his position as Vice President of the City Council, emphasizing that this choice does not signify a departure from Athens or its citizens.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<b>This decision of mine does not distance me from the struggle. It does not distance me from you. On the contrary, it liberates me<\/b>,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>Christos Tentomas made it clear that he will continue to serve Athens as an independent city councilor, with a daily presence in the neighborhoods and with the goal of listening directly to citizens, their problems, and their suggestions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<b>I will continue to be here, on the front lines, as a simple city councilor<\/b>. To be by the side of every Athenian man and woman every day. To listen to your problems and fight for our city,\u201d he emphasized.<\/p>\n<p>Concluding his speech, <b>Christos Tentomas <\/b>thanked the citizens for their support and <b>announced further updates this fall,<\/b> making it clear that today\u2019s decision marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of a new path of responsibility, which will be presented in detail next year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<b>I want you by my side. We\u2019ll talk again in person this fall.
