{"id":10705,"date":"2026-06-15T07:13:00","date_gmt":"2026-06-15T04:13:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/?p=10705"},"modified":"2026-06-15T07:13:00","modified_gmt":"2026-06-15T04:13:00","slug":"u-s-iran-agreement-to-end-the-war-the-strait-of-hormuz-to-reopen-on-friday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/?p=10705","title":{"rendered":"U.S.-Iran Agreement to End the War &#8211; The Strait of Hormuz to Reopen on Friday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The governments of the U.S.  and Iran have reached an agreement in principle to immediately end the war in the Middle East on all fronts, including Lebanon.<\/p>\n<p>This was announced in the early hours of the morning by <b>Pakistan<\/b>, a country playing a key mediating role, with Washington and Tehran confirming this information immediately afterward.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete,\u201d said U.S. President <b>Donald Trump<\/b> via Truth Social, a few minutes after Pakistani Prime Minister <b>Shabaz Sharif<\/b> announced via X that an agreement had been \u201creached.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI approve the full opening of the <b>Strait of Hormuz<\/b> without transit fees and, at the same time, the <b>immediate lifting of the U.S. naval blockade.<\/b> Ships of the world, start your engines. <b>Let the oil flow<\/b>!\u201d, added the U.S. president, who nevertheless clarified later that the strategically important waterway would reopen \u201cas soon as the agreement is signed,\u201d which is expected to take place on Friday, June 19, in order to allow time &#8220;for the removal of (sea) mines&#8221; in the area.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement that an agreement had been reached triggered a drop in <b>oil<\/b>, which had surged after the war broke out in late February and the strait was closed, through which, under normal circumstances, one-fifth of the hydrocarbons consumed globally pass.<\/p>\n<h3>What the agreement provides for<\/h3>\n<p>The agreement between the two governments provides for \u201cthe immediate end of the war and military operations on various fronts, including Lebanon,\u201d said Deputy Foreign Minister <b>Kazem Gharibabadi on Iranian state television.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>\u201cNegotiations will begin <b>within 60 days<\/b> with a view to concluding a final agreement,\u201d Mr. Gharibabadi added, noting that Tehran continues to view the U.S. with \u201csuspicion.\u201d He mentioned <b>four issues that will be on the table<\/b>: \u201cthe lifting of all sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran, whether unilateral primary or secondary; the nuclear energy program; the \u201creconstruction\u201d and \u201ceconomic development\u201d of Iran; and \u201cthe creation of a monitoring mechanism\u201d to ensure the implementation of the commitments undertaken.<\/p>\n<p>The Iranian news agency MEHR published a text which it presented as the <b>\u201cmemorandum of understanding\u201d<\/b>, the 14-point agreement protocol reached by the U.S. and Iran: It provides, among other things, for \u201cthe release of $24 billion that has been frozen (abroad) during the 60-day negotiation period\u201d that will begin after the signing, \u201chalf\u201d of which \u201cwill be made available to Iran before the start of negotiations,\u201d according to the text already reported by MEHR on Saturday, however, this has not been officially confirmed.<\/p>\n<p><b>The signing ceremony for the agreement will take place on Friday, June 19, in Geneva<\/b>, Pakistani Prime Minister Sharif announced. U.S. Vice President Jay D. Vance announced that he intends to attend, adding that U.S. President Trump\u2019s presence is \u201clikely.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>UN Secretary-General <i>Ant\u00f3nio Guterres<\/i> welcomed the agreement, &#8220;a crucial step toward a peaceful resolution of the conflict,&#8221; as he emphasized, according to a press release issued by his spokesperson, St\u00e9phane Dujarric.<\/p>\n<p>Iran \u201cimposed its divine and iron will on the American and Zionist enemies,\u201d \u201chumiliated\u201d them, and \u201cthe enemy had no choice but to accept defeat and surrender,\u201d claimed the Iranian Army General Staff, according to state television.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly before the agreement was announced, the <b>Supreme National Security Council of Iran<\/b> warned via X that there would be \u201cimmediate\u201d retaliation for an <b>Israeli<\/b> airstrike that killed three people in a southern suburb of Beirut, a stronghold of Lebanon\u2019s Hezbollah, which is aligned with Tehran.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Outraged&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>U.S. President Trump stated earlier via Truth Social that Israel\u2019s raid \u201cshould not have happened, especially on this particular day\u201d \u2014yesterday he celebrated his 80th birthday.<\/p>\n<p>He told the news site Axios he was \u201coutraged,\u201d emphasizing that he had criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for the strike: \u201cHe has no f&#8230; judgment, I told him that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Israeli authorities, who are facing with growing anxiety the possibility of a compromise that will not satisfy their demands regarding Iran, the sworn enemy of the Jewish state, claimed they retaliated against a Hezbollah drone attack on Israeli territory.<\/p>\n<p>Under pressure at home to end the highly unpopular war, which is also shaking the global economy, Donald Trump is expected to discuss the matter with the other G7 leaders this week at the summit to be held in Evian, France.<\/p>\n<h3>Reactions<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cThe aim will be to assess the consequences of this agreement, support for Lebanon, the permanent reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and obviously the conclusion of an agreement on Iran\u2019s nuclear energy program and its ballistic missile program,\u201d noted French President <b>Emmanuel Macron<\/b> in a video he posted on Instagram after arriving in the city on the shores of Lake Geneva, shortly after the agreement was announced.<\/p>\n<p>In a joint statement, the governments of<b> Britain, France, Germany, and Italy<\/b> \u2014a group known as the E4\u2014stated their willingness to proceed with lifting certain \u201csanctions, in exchange for clear and verifiable measures on the part of Iran regarding its nuclear energy program.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The governments of the United States and Iran have reached an agreement in principle to immediately end the war in the Middle East on all fronts, &#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":10706,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-10705","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-world"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/10705","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=10705"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/10705\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/media\/10706"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=10705"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=10705"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=10705"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
