More than 400 stolen cats were rescued in Vietnam, after the dismantling of a ring that intended them for meat consumption.<\/p>\n
The police in Vietnam<\/strong> rescued more than 400 live cats<\/strong> and located another 80 dead<\/strong> cats, preserved in ice, following an operation against a ring that allegedly stole them for the purpose of selling them for human consumption<\/strong>. According to an animal welfare organization, several of the cats have already been returned to their owners.<\/p>\n Nine people were arrested<\/strong> last week as part of an investigation into a \u201ccriminal group specializing in the theft and collection of cats,\u201d as reported by the police newspaper of the city of Ho Chi Minh<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Authorities launched the operation following a wave of pet thefts<\/strong> in the area. During the investigation, more than 400 live cats<\/strong> were recovered, while 80 dead cats<\/strong> that had been kept on ice.<\/p>\n The suspects reportedly confessed to trapping cats<\/strong> in various areas of southern Vietnam<\/strong> for approximately three years<\/strong>. So far, at least 40 animals<\/strong> have been reunited with their families.<\/p>\n The consumption of cats and dogs<\/strong> remains legal in Vietnam<\/strong>, with many restaurants offering these meats. However, vendors are required to have the necessary certificates of origin<\/strong> for the animals.<\/p>\n The organization Humane World for Animals<\/strong> welcomed the operation, calling it a \u201cdecisive action\u201d that saved the lives of hundreds of animals.
