The new trade architecture<\/b> taking shape between the European Union and the U.S.<\/b> is bringing changes to transatlantic trade<\/b>, as the two sides move forward with regulations<\/b> that affect the flow of industrial, agricultural, and fishery products<\/b>. The decision by the European Parliament<\/b> marks a new phase in the 2025 agreement<\/b>, aimed at facilitating trade <\/b>while also maintaining controls<\/b> against potential disruptions in the European market<\/b>. The focus is on the terms of access for U.S. products<\/b>, the implications for European manufacturing sectors<\/b>, and the mechanisms that will be activated in the event of trade pressures or increased imports<\/b>.<\/p>\n

The European Parliament<\/b> has approved two legislative acts implementing the EU\u2019s tariff commitments <\/b>under the EU-US Agreement of 2025<\/b>. The regulations provide for the elimination of tariffs on US industrial products<\/b> and the granting of preferential access <\/b>for specific agricultural products and seafood,<\/b> while the duty-free import of lobster<\/b> is also extended.<\/p>\n

Strong safeguards<\/h3>\n

At the same time, strong safeguards are being introduced to protect the European economy. Specifically, the agreement includes a sunset clause set for 2029, the option to suspend concessions in the event of high U.S. tariffs on steel and aluminum products, as well as a safeguard mechanism in the event that imports increase and cause harm to the EU\u2019s industry and agriculture.<\/p>\n

The agreement is accompanied by strict monitoring mechanisms, such as a sunset clause in 2029, the possibility of suspending concessions if the U.S. maintains high tariffs on steel and aluminum products, as well as a safeguard mechanism to protect European industry and agriculture in the event of a surge in imports.<\/p>\n
