The leaders of the G7 (the U.S., Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Japan, and Canada<\/b>) have agreed to impose tougher sanctions on Russia due to the ongoing war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n
This is confirmed by the final communiqu\u00e9 of the Evian summit in France.<\/p>\n
The text also promises an increase in deliveries of long-range weapons and air defense \u201ccapabilities\u201d to the Ukrainian military.\u00a0<\/b>The text refers to \u201cnew momentum\u201d and \u201cUkrainian progress\u201d on the battlefields \u201cin recent months.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to the statement, the leaders believe that this is the \u201cright moment\u201d to take additional measures against Moscow<\/b>, following U.S.-Iran agreement that provides for the opening of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n
In addition to providing support in the form of weapons and ammunition to the Ukrainian military, the G7 also pledged energy assistance to Ukraine<\/b>, so that the country can cope \u201cnext winter,\u201d even though the Russian military is targeting power plants and the distribution network.<\/p>\n
French President Emmanuel Macron<\/b>, the host of the summit, described it as a \u201cmoment of strategic awakening\u201d <\/b>and, in a video he posted on Instagram, spoke of \u201cvictories\u201d in terms of support for Ukraine.
