{"id":11814,"date":"2026-06-20T09:57:00","date_gmt":"2026-06-20T06:57:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/?p=11814"},"modified":"2026-06-20T09:57:00","modified_gmt":"2026-06-20T06:57:00","slug":"breaking-news-storm-in-syriza-the-end-of-famelloss-presidency-head-on-clash-with-pavlos-polakis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/?p=11814","title":{"rendered":"Breaking News: Storm in SYRIZA\u2014The End of Famellos\u2019s Presidency\u2014Head-on Clash with Pavlos Polakis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The political reality at Koumoundourou now resembles a scene from a science fiction movie, where the protagonists seem to <b>live in completely different galaxies.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>With the clock ticking down and the end credits rolling for the presidency of <b>Sokratis Famellos<\/b> in <b>SYRIZA<\/b> looming menacingly, he himself is adopting a stance that to many seems <b>as if it came from another planet. <\/b><\/p>\n<p>At a time when the party is sinking <b>in the polls,<\/b> the party president states unequivocally that <b>he does not want a rival slate <\/b>to run against the new initiative of <b>Alexis Tsipras.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Instead of seeking a head-on confrontation to ensure the survival of his own political party, Mr. Famellos ardently maintains that <b>SYRIZA supports<\/b> this new movement, seeing in it the only way forward for the <b>convergence of the progressive camp. <\/b><\/p>\n<p>Continuing a <b>political stance of \u201cone thing for another,\u201d<\/b> it dispels any scenario\u2026 of introversion, rejecting the possibility of the party\u2019s MPs resigning and insisting on the need to strengthen the parliamentary group. As for the rumors swirling behind the scenes, he himself describes<b> his relationship with Alexis Tsipras as excellent,<\/b> categorically denying any <b>speculation about secret backroom deals.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>This almost\u2026 <b>Buddhist-like composure of Famelos <\/b>provokes a furious reaction from the other side, with <b>Pavlos Polakis<\/b> taking up the gauntlet and <b>setting the record straight<\/b> in his own, familiar way. <\/p>\n<p>Indirectly but clearly declaring his \u201cpresence\u201d for the future and the leadership of SYRIZA, the independent MP from Chania makes it clear that he <b>has never backed down at critical moments.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>For P. Polakis, the collapse in the polls is an <b>open wound<\/b> that cannot be allowed to continue and demands radical, clear-cut solutions here and now. Launching a head-on attack, he calls it unthinkable that a party president would support another political faction, while making <b>sharp criticisms<\/b> of the Central Committee\u2019s decision, interpreting it  either as <b>the result of a secret agreement between Famellos-Tsipras<\/b> or as an improbable and <b>indescribable act of political subservience. <\/b><\/p>\n<p>Without absolving the current president of his responsibility for the plunge in the party\u2019s poll numbers from 10% to 2%, the MP emphasizes that <b>SYRIZA has a history and a future<\/b> that must not be squandered. <\/p>\n<p>At the same time, although he declares himself a staunch supporter of coalitions, he makes it clear that A. Tsipras\u2019s policy presentation <b>does not satisfy him in any way. <\/b><\/p>\n<p>What is certain is that <b>the coming period promises to be turbulent,<\/b> with P.
