{"id":11980,"date":"2026-06-21T11:46:00","date_gmt":"2026-06-21T08:46:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/?p=11980"},"modified":"2026-06-21T11:46:00","modified_gmt":"2026-06-21T08:46:00","slug":"world-music-day-attica-is-filled-with-concerts-and-free-events-for-everyone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/?p=11980","title":{"rendered":"World Music Day: Attica is filled with concerts and free events for everyone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>     <strong>World Music Day Music<\/strong> finds <strong>Attica<\/strong> this year filled with events, concerts, and cultural activities with free admission for the public. <\/p>\n<p> The festival, which began as a European initiative on the occasion of the <strong>Summer Solstice<\/strong>, has evolved into an international celebration dedicated to music and its power to bring together people of different ages and cultures. <\/p>\n<h3>     The National Garden is the focal point of the events <\/h3>\n<p>     The <strong>Municipality of Athens<\/strong> is dedicating this year\u2019s event to the <strong>National Garden<\/strong>. At 12:00 p.m., the City Choir will present a program ranging from Negro Spirituals and musicals to pop and rock. <\/p>\n<p>     At 7:00 p.m., a concert by the <strong>Greek Music Workshop<\/strong> will follow, featuring songs and compositions by <strong>Mikis Theodorakis<\/strong>, <strong>Yannis Spanos<\/strong>, <strong>Stavros Xarchakos<\/strong>, <strong>Dionysis Savvopoulos<\/strong>, and other notable composers. <\/p>\n<p>     The curtain falls at 9:00 p.m. at the Zappeion Gardens Amphitheater with the <strong>Athens Big Band<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<h3>     Tributes to Theodorakis and Kazantzidis <\/h3>\n<p>     In <strong>Agia Paraskevi<\/strong>, the choral concert \u201c<strong>Mikis Theodorakis: 100 Years of Choral Music<\/strong>\u201d will take place at 8:00 p.m. at the city\u2019s 1st and 2nd Vocational High Schools and Technical College. <\/p>\n<p>     According to the municipal authorities, the event \u201c<strong>is a tribute to the power of music to unite people, cultures, and generations, while honoring the great musical legacy of the renowned Greek composer<\/strong>.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>     Participants include the Agia Paraskevi Municipal Mixed Choir, the Emporiki Bank Mixed Choir, the Orpheus Choir of Tripoli, and the Mandolinata &#8211; Agios Panteleimonas of Acharnes Choir, while the opera soloists <strong>Eleni Davou<\/strong> and <strong>Antonis Koronaios<\/strong> will also be in attendance. <\/p>\n<p>     In <strong>Nea Ionia<\/strong>, the second part of the two-day events at the Panaitolio is dedicated to <strong>Stelios Kazantzidis<\/strong>. The concert \u201c<strong>Stelios\u2019 Roots \u2014 MUSICAL MEMORY AND REFUGEE IDENTITY IN NEA IONIA<\/strong>\u201d will take place at 9:00, featuring the Estudiantina of Nea Ionia, Magnesia; <strong>Aspasia Stratigou<\/strong>; <strong>Thodoris Mermigas<\/strong>; and <strong>Vasilis Lekkas<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<h3>     Musical evenings in squares and neighborhoods <\/h3>\n<p>     In <strong>Aigaleo<\/strong>, the Municipal Philharmonic Orchestra will give a concert at 8:00 p.m. in Eleftherios Venizelos Square, presenting a program featuring milestones of Greek music. Featuring <strong>Rena Strouliou<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p>     In <strong>Vyronas<\/strong>, the \u201cNeighborhoods of Culture 2026\u201d Festival will host the concert \u201c<strong>Let Me Remind You of a Thousand Nights<\/strong>\u201d featuring <strong>Giorgos Kampanellis<\/strong>, at Nikolaidis-Karea Square. <\/p>\n<p>     In <strong>Lavreotiki<\/strong>, the \u201cThorikia 2026\u201d Festival continues with a tribute to the great composers of Greek music, in the courtyard of the Agios Konstantinos Elementary School. <\/p>\n<p>     <strong>Peristeri<\/strong> is celebrating with a concert by the Modern Music Department of the Municipal Conservatory in Town Hall Square, while in <strong>Chalandri<\/strong> the Woodwind Quintet and the Brass Quintet of the Philharmonic Orchestra will perform works from the international repertoire in the central square. <\/p>\n<h3>     Activities for children and music lovers <\/h3>\n<p>     In <strong>Ilioupoli<\/strong>, the Municipality\u2019s Music Workshops will open their doors to the public for a special \u201copen day.\u201d Visitors will be able to explore musical instruments, attend open classes, and enjoy short concerts by the students. <\/p>\n<p>     The program includes early music education for children ages 4 to 6, as well as presentations by the piano, accordion, guitar, electric guitar, and folk instrument departments. <\/p>\n<h3>     International collaborations and large choirs <\/h3>\n<p>     In <strong>Kifissia<\/strong>, the Friends of Music Association, the Norwegian Embassy, and Pyrna are organizing a concert at Kifissia Park. <\/p>\n<p>     Taking the stage will be the 100-member Musica Friends of Music Choir, the Songlaget i BUL i Oslo choir, and the Athens University Symphony Orchestra.
