World Music Day Music<\/strong> finds Attica<\/strong> this year filled with events, concerts, and cultural activities with free admission for the public. <\/p>\n

The festival, which began as a European initiative on the occasion of the Summer Solstice<\/strong>, has evolved into an international celebration dedicated to music and its power to bring together people of different ages and cultures. <\/p>\n

The National Garden is the focal point of the events <\/h3>\n

The Municipality of Athens<\/strong> is dedicating this year\u2019s event to the National Garden<\/strong>. At 12:00 p.m., the City Choir will present a program ranging from Negro Spirituals and musicals to pop and rock. <\/p>\n

At 7:00 p.m., a concert by the Greek Music Workshop<\/strong> will follow, featuring songs and compositions by Mikis Theodorakis<\/strong>, Yannis Spanos<\/strong>, Stavros Xarchakos<\/strong>, Dionysis Savvopoulos<\/strong>, and other notable composers. <\/p>\n

The curtain falls at 9:00 p.m. at the Zappeion Gardens Amphitheater with the Athens Big Band<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

Tributes to Theodorakis and Kazantzidis <\/h3>\n

In Agia Paraskevi<\/strong>, the choral concert \u201cMikis Theodorakis: 100 Years of Choral Music<\/strong>\u201d will take place at 8:00 p.m. at the city\u2019s 1st and 2nd Vocational High Schools and Technical College. <\/p>\n

According to the municipal authorities, the event \u201cis a tribute to the power of music to unite people, cultures, and generations, while honoring the great musical legacy of the renowned Greek composer<\/strong>.\u201d <\/p>\n

Participants include the Agia Paraskevi Municipal Mixed Choir, the Emporiki Bank Mixed Choir, the Orpheus Choir of Tripoli, and the Mandolinata – Agios Panteleimonas of Acharnes Choir, while the opera soloists Eleni Davou<\/strong> and Antonis Koronaios<\/strong> will also be in attendance. <\/p>\n

In Nea Ionia<\/strong>, the second part of the two-day events at the Panaitolio is dedicated to Stelios Kazantzidis<\/strong>. The concert \u201cStelios\u2019 Roots \u2014 MUSICAL MEMORY AND REFUGEE IDENTITY IN NEA IONIA<\/strong>\u201d will take place at 9:00, featuring the Estudiantina of Nea Ionia, Magnesia; Aspasia Stratigou<\/strong>; Thodoris Mermigas<\/strong>; and Vasilis Lekkas<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

Musical evenings in squares and neighborhoods <\/h3>\n

In Aigaleo<\/strong>, the Municipal Philharmonic Orchestra will give a concert at 8:00 p.m. in Eleftherios Venizelos Square, presenting a program featuring milestones of Greek music. Featuring Rena Strouliou<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

In Vyronas<\/strong>, the \u201cNeighborhoods of Culture 2026\u201d Festival will host the concert \u201cLet Me Remind You of a Thousand Nights<\/strong>\u201d featuring Giorgos Kampanellis<\/strong>, at Nikolaidis-Karea Square. <\/p>\n

In Lavreotiki<\/strong>, the \u201cThorikia 2026\u201d Festival continues with a tribute to the great composers of Greek music, in the courtyard of the Agios Konstantinos Elementary School. <\/p>\n

Peristeri<\/strong> is celebrating with a concert by the Modern Music Department of the Municipal Conservatory in Town Hall Square, while in Chalandri<\/strong> the Woodwind Quintet and the Brass Quintet of the Philharmonic Orchestra will perform works from the international repertoire in the central square. <\/p>\n

Activities for children and music lovers <\/h3>\n

In Ilioupoli<\/strong>, the Municipality\u2019s Music Workshops will open their doors to the public for a special \u201copen day.\u201d Visitors will be able to explore musical instruments, attend open classes, and enjoy short concerts by the students. <\/p>\n

The program includes early music education for children ages 4 to 6, as well as presentations by the piano, accordion, guitar, electric guitar, and folk instrument departments. <\/p>\n

International collaborations and large choirs <\/h3>\n

In Kifissia<\/strong>, the Friends of Music Association, the Norwegian Embassy, and Pyrna are organizing a concert at Kifissia Park. <\/p>\n

Taking the stage will be the 100-member Musica Friends of Music Choir, the Songlaget i BUL i Oslo choir, and the Athens University Symphony Orchestra. The program culminates with Ludwig van Beethoven<\/strong>\u2019s \u201cChoral Fantasy<\/strong>.\u201d <\/p>\n

Meanwhile, in Papagos-Cholargos<\/strong>, the concert \u201cYoung People Celebrate Europe\u2026 Through Music<\/strong>\u201d will take place on Monday at the City Hall\u2019s outdoor theater, featuring the Children\u2019s and Youth Symphony Orchestra of the Holy Archdiocese of Athens. <\/p>\n

From the center of Athens to the northern, western, and southern suburbs, this year\u2019s World Music Day<\/strong> transforms Attica into one big open-air stage, giving the public the opportunity to enjoy all kinds of musical experiences for free. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
