{"id":12102,"date":"2026-06-22T09:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-06-22T06:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/?p=12102"},"modified":"2026-06-22T09:00:00","modified_gmt":"2026-06-22T06:00:00","slug":"unimproved-land-today-is-the-deadline-for-filing-declarations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/?p=12102","title":{"rendered":"Unimproved Land: Today is the deadline for filing declarations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today is the last day for the deadline to clean up and declare plots of land; starting tomorrow, inspections, fines, penalties, and ex officio cleanups by municipalities.<\/p>\n<p>Today is the last chance for <strong>owners<\/strong>, <strong>usufructuaries<\/strong>, <strong>tenants<\/strong>, and <strong>subtenants<\/strong> of plots of land to complete the required <strong>cleanup<\/strong> and submit the relevant <strong>declaration<\/strong> on the online platform of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection. According to the president of the Fire Department Officers\u2019 Union, Kostas Tsigas, approximately <strong>610,000 declarations<\/strong> have already been submitted, and it has been made clear that no further <strong>extension<\/strong> will be granted.<\/p>\n<h2>Inspections begin tomorrow &#8211; Cross-checks begin<\/h2>\n<p>Starting Tuesday, June 23, <strong>inspections<\/strong> will begin by the <strong>municipalities<\/strong> and the <strong>Fire Department<\/strong> will begin, drawing on both on-site inspections and <strong>complaints<\/strong> from citizens. Priority will be given to areas of increased <strong>fire risk<\/strong>, in zones where <strong>forest<\/strong> and <strong>urban areas<\/strong> coexist, in areas of the <strong>Natura<\/strong> network and near critical <strong>infrastructure<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Kostas Tsigas pointed out that municipalities are continuing with the necessary interventions, and where necessary, they will proceed with <strong>ex officio cleanup<\/strong>, with the relevant <strong>costs<\/strong> charged to those responsible. At the same time, he clarified that the Fire Department investigates complaints, while the imposition of <strong>fines<\/strong> is carried out by the competent municipal authorities.<\/p>\n<h2>The fines &#8211; What the law provides for<\/h2>\n<p>The relevant <strong>Joint Ministerial Decision<\/strong> provides for a series of administrative and criminal <strong>penalties<\/strong> for those who fail to comply with their obligations.<\/p>\n<p>Specifically, a <strong>fine of 500 euros<\/strong> is imposed when neither <strong>cleanup<\/strong> nor <strong>declaration<\/strong> has been carried out, while a <strong>fine of 100 euros<\/strong> is imposed when cleanup has been performed but the required declaration has not been submitted.<\/p>\n<p>For failure to clean a plot of land or an open space, a <strong>fine<\/strong> of <strong>1 euro per square meter<\/strong> is imposed, with a minimum amount of <strong>200 euros<\/strong> and a maximum of <strong>2,000 euros<\/strong>. At the same time, municipalities may proceed with <strong>ex officio cleanup<\/strong>, charging the associated costs to the owners.<\/p>\n<p>In cases of <strong>false declarations<\/strong>, <strong>criminal penalties<\/strong> are also provided for, including <strong>imprisonment<\/strong> of at least six months and <strong>a fine of 5,000 euros<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>What does mandatory cleanup entail?<\/h2>\n<p>The obligations mainly concern areas <strong>within city limits<\/strong>, <strong>within settlement boundaries<\/strong>, as well as areas located up to <strong>100 meters<\/strong> from them, provided they are not subject to <strong>forestry legislation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The required work includes <strong>removal of dry vegetation<\/strong>, <strong>tree pruning<\/strong>, <strong>thinning of shrubs<\/strong>, the <strong>collection and removal<\/strong> of clearing debris, as well as the removal of <strong>flammable materials<\/strong> and <strong>trash<\/strong>.
