According to new research by diaNEOsis and Metron Analysis, nearly seven out of ten Greeks have already used Artificial Intelligence applications, and their use continues to grow rapidly.

Of those who use such tools, 37.3% say they use them every day, while 50.7% use them a few times a week. In other words, nearly nine out of ten users interact with AI applications on a weekly basis, a fact that confirms that the technology has now moved beyond the novelty phase into everyday use.

Despite its widespread adoption, society does not view AI with uncritical enthusiasm. On the contrary, this familiarity is accompanied by intense concern about its implications.

The greatest fears: Misinformation and loss of critical thinking

The most striking finding of the survey concerns citizens’ concerns. Eighty percent say they are very or extremely concerned about misinformation and false content that Artificial Intelligence may generate or disseminate.

Almost the same percentage, 78.7%, expresses strong concern about the erosion of critical thinking—that is, the risk that people will rely too heavily on machine-generated answers. High levels of concern are also reported regarding cyberattacks and cybercrime (76%), the security of personal data and privacy (75.9%), and job losses (74.2%).

It is no coincidence that 67.4% of respondents believe that the risks of Artificial Intelligence are greater than those associated with previous technological revolutions.

They are calling for rules, transparency, and oversight

The public’s response to these fears is clear: more regulation. Nearly nine out of ten consider it necessary to provide better education for citizens on the use of AI (88.8%) and greater transparency regarding how the models operate (87.1%).

There is also extremely high support for mandatory citation of sources in AI responses (85.7%), safeguards implemented by the companies themselves (84.8%), the certification of AI systems (81.4%), and the imposition of penalties on companies that violate rules (80.3%).

This picture shows that citizens are not calling for the rejection of the technology. However, they are calling for a clear regulatory framework that ensures accountability and user protection.

Who should be held responsible

When the question of liability arises in the event of harm caused by the use of Artificial Intelligence, the majority points to the companies and platforms that develop these tools. Among users, 53.4% hold the company or platform responsible, while among non-users, the corresponding percentage reaches 43.1%.

At the same time, an interesting distinction emerges. Users attribute a greater degree of responsibility to the individual citizens who use these tools, while non-users tend to place a larger share of the responsibility on the government.

This difference indicates that personal experience with the technology significantly influences how one perceives the risks and obligations associated with the new technology.

The government remains the primary regulator

As for who should take on the protection of citizens, the answer is clear. 61.5% believe that the government of each country should play the central role. This is followed by the European Union at 29.9%, technology and artificial intelligence companies at 27.2%, independent authorities at 17.1%, and international organizations at 16.8%.

The picture that emerges is of a society that has already embraced AI tools but is not willing to leave them unsupervised. Greeks seem to recognize the potential of this new technology, but at the same time they demand strict rules, transparency, and a clear division of responsibilities. Acceptance is there. Trust, however, remains conditional.

A survey by diaNEOsis shows that artificial intelligence has become an integral part of everyday life, yet citizens are calling for strict regulation and protection …

[2

post-12164","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-greece
["GET
