{"id":12190,"date":"2026-06-22T15:09:00","date_gmt":"2026-06-22T12:09:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/?p=12190"},"modified":"2026-06-22T15:09:00","modified_gmt":"2026-06-22T12:09:00","slug":"dimitris-kairidis-vs-haris-doukas-a-failed-mayor-theyre-all-trailing-behind-him-in-pasok","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/?p=12190","title":{"rendered":"Dimitris Kairidis vs. Haris Doukas: A failed mayor\u2014they\u2019re all trailing behind him in PASOK"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"49\" data-end=\"218\">     The debate between Dimitris Kairidis and Charis Doukas escalated following the statements made by New Democracy MP and the strong response from the mayor of Athens. <\/p>\n<h3 data-section-id=\"hfmw6h\" data-start=\"220\" data-end=\"267\">     Kairidis\u2019s harsh criticism of the mayor of Athens <\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"269\" data-end=\"590\">     A fierce political clash erupted between <strong data-start=\"316\" data-end=\"335\">Dimitris Kairidis<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"344\" data-end=\"358\">Haris Doukas<\/strong>, following statements made by the former New Democracy minister during television appearances on ANT1 and Action 24, where he sharply criticized the Athens municipal government and the way in which <strong data-start=\"550\" data-end=\"559\">PASOK<\/strong> provides political support to the mayor. <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"592\" data-end=\"950\">     Mr. <strong data-start=\"597\" data-end=\"609\">Kairidis<\/strong> described Mr. <strong data-start=\"629\" data-end=\"638\">Doukas<\/strong> \u201c<strong data-start=\"640\" data-end=\"663\">a failed mayor<\/strong>,\u201d arguing that PASOK has chosen to politically back a figure who, as he noted, had garnered only <strong data-start=\"824\" data-end=\"831\">14%<\/strong>. At the same time, he attributed the mayor\u2019s election to specific political circumstances and the unique context of that particular race. <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"952\" data-end=\"1194\">     \u201cPASOK has taken on a failed mayor of Athens and is trailing behind him. A mayor of Athens who, as candidate received 14%\u2014let\u2019s not forget that\u2014and ended up in this position due to the circumstances,\u201d he pointed out. <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1196\" data-end=\"1550\">     The New Democracy MP continued his criticism, arguing that the mayor should focus more on the city\u2019s problems. As he noted, the <strong data-start=\"1355\" data-end=\"1376\">center of Athens<\/strong> faces serious issues regarding daily life and its image, while accusing Mr. Doukas of choosing <strong data-start=\"1479\" data-end=\"1504\">political confrontation<\/strong> over addressing municipal issues. <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1552\" data-end=\"1721\">     In fact, he characterized the mayor \u201c<strong data-start=\"1586\" data-end=\"1608\">a political nonentity<\/strong>\u201d and \u201c<strong data-start=\"1615\" data-end=\"1625\">a nobody<\/strong>,\u201d expressing the view that he would not be re-elected in the upcoming municipal elections. <\/p>\n<h3 data-section-id=\"ffjnre\" data-start=\"1723\" data-end=\"1772\">     Doukas\u2019s response and the accusations of \u201cfascism\u201d <\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1774\" data-end=\"1945\">     The response from <strong data-start=\"1789\" data-end=\"1803\">Haris Doukas<\/strong> came via a social media post, in which he addressed <strong data-start=\"1875\" data-end=\"1902\">extreme characterizations<\/strong> and a campaign to politically target him. <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1947\" data-end=\"2266\">     The mayor of Athens argued that those who disagree politically with the government are portrayed as \u201cfailures,\u201d \u201cmarginal,\u201d and \u201cnobodies,\u201d referring to the \u201c<strong data-start=\"2102\" data-end=\"2134\">fascistization of political life<\/strong>\u201d by the government\u2019s \u201celite.\u201d At the same time, he made pointed remarks about \u201c<strong data-start=\"2202\" data-end=\"2229\">a coordinated campaign<\/strong>\u201d behind the attacks he is facing. <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2268\" data-end=\"2645\">     Referring to the municipal government, Mr. <strong data-start=\"2305\" data-end=\"2315\">Doukas<\/strong> argued that <strong data-start=\"2333\" data-end=\"2342\">Athens<\/strong> is now on a different path, emphasizing that decisions made by the previous administration\u2014such as the <strong data-start=\"2461\" data-end=\"2482\">Grand Promenade<\/strong> and the projects on <strong data-start=\"2506\" data-end=\"2526\">Queen Olga Avenue<\/strong>.
