The incident occurred in Carpentras, in the south of the country, while the region is being hit by a severe heatwave<\/b>. According to local media reports, the two young children were found inside the family car, which was parked in the garage of their home. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe causes of death have not yet been determined, but the theory that they lost their lives due to the heatwave is the leading one,\u201d Carpentras prosecutor H\u00e9l\u00e8ne Mourz told the French Press Agency. <\/p>\n
According to BFMTV, the incident occurred at 1:10 p.m. local time. The two children were locked inside the vehicle after their mother returned from shopping. <\/p>\n
The city\u2019s mayor said he was shocked by the incident and expressed his condolences to the children\u2019s families. At the same time, he urged parents and grandparents to exercise extra caution during periods of extreme heat. <\/p>\n
\u201cCars, swimming pools, and any outdoor area without shade can be dangerous for young children when temperatures are this high,\u201d he emphasized. <\/p>\n
