The president of the Freedom Movement has chosen once again to portray herself as a victim of an allegedly organized persecution campaign, turning an institutional process into a personal political drama. However, the case files that have been forwarded to the Parliament do not concern political views or parliamentary interventions, but rather specific allegations and incidents that the judiciaryis called upon to evaluate.

The picture that emerges is revealing of a political sphere that systematically invests in conflict with the institutions, but appears unwilling to undergo the same scrutiny it demands of everyone else. Instead of addressing the substance of the allegations, Ms. Konstantopoulou attempts to shift the discussion away from the content of the case files to the familiar terrain of allegations of “political persecution”, cultivating a narrative of self-victimization that now resembles a permanent political tactic.

“Fabricated case files” and “political persecution”

The Ethics Committee’s recommendation to lift Zoi Konstantopoulou’s immunity does not constitute a conviction. However, it affirms what is self-evident in a democracy: that no one is above scrutiny. And this is precisely where the great contradiction of the president of the Freedom Movement becomes apparent.

For years, she has built her political image on denouncing everyone. Judges, governments, institutions, political parties, public officials. But when the accusations concern her, the script changes. Suddenly, there are “fabricated case files,” “political prosecutions,” “bullying,” and “abusive behavior.” The discussion shifts from the actual facts to the familiar rhetoric of personal persecution.

The problem for Ms. Konstantopoulou is that the cases under review did not arise from any political disagreement. They concern specific allegations regarding incidents in courtrooms, non-consensual video recordings, and conduct that the competent authorities deemed necessary to investigate. The response to these cannot be the constant invocation of a vague plan for extermination.

Zoe Konstantopoulou thrives politically on conflict

Even more striking is the attempt to turn every institutional process into an ideological battle. The Parliament is following the prescribed rules of procedure, the Committee is reviewing the requests from the judiciary, and the Plenary is called upon to decide. This is a procedure that has been applied dozens of times to members of Parliament from all parties. In the case of Ms. Konstantopoulou, however, it is being portrayed almost as an attack on democracy.

The truth is simpler. The lifting of immunity does not imply guilt. It means that the judiciary must be able to examine a case without political privileges or exceptions. Anyone who constantly demands accountability from others must accept the same rule for themselves.

Ultimately, the case reveals something deeper. Zoe Konstantopoulou seems to thrive politically on conflict and to survive in the media through a constant sense of being under siege. The more she presents herself as a victim of persecution, the more she attempts to rally her audience. Except that democracy does not function on the basis of personal narratives of heroization. It functions through rules, institutions, and accountability. And everyone must respect these rules—even those who have learned to constantly portray themselves as victims of the system.

The president of the Freedom Movement alleges political persecution, while the judiciary and the Parliament are examining specific complaints and case files.
The …

[3

post-12266","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-politics
["GET
