{"id":12317,"date":"2026-06-23T09:14:00","date_gmt":"2026-06-23T06:14:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/?p=12317"},"modified":"2026-06-23T09:14:00","modified_gmt":"2026-06-23T06:14:00","slug":"constitutional-review-committee-focus-on-the-presidents-term-of-office-dissolution-of-parliament-and-referendums","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/?p=12317","title":{"rendered":"Constitutional Review Committee: Focus on the President\u2019s Term of Office, Dissolution of Parliament, and Referendums"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <b>Committee on Constitutional Revision is meeting today, Tuesday.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The committee will discuss the proposals of the New Democracy for a single six-year term for the President of the Republic, the abolition of the provision for the dissolution of the <b>Parliament<\/b> on a national issue of exceptional importance, and the introduction of rules for the proper conduct of <b>referendums<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>Specifically, the subject of the upcoming Committee meeting is the proposed amendment to:<\/p>\n<p><b>-Article 30, paragraphs 1 and 5:<\/b> A six-year term for the President of the Republic.<\/p>\n<p><b>-Article 41, paragraphs 2 and 5:<\/b> Abolition of the dissolution of Parliament for a national issue of exceptional importance\u2014dissolution, upon a proposal by the government and a decision by Parliament to renew the popular mandate (self-dissolution of Parliament).<\/p>\n<p><b>-Article 44, paragraph 2:<\/b> Introduction of rules for the proper conduct of referendums: the question must be phrased in a way that is clear and understandable to citizens. There must be a sufficient interval of at least 20 days between the announcement and the holding of the referendum.<\/p>\n<p><b>-Article 118: <\/b>Transitional provision regarding the application of the revised paragraphs 1 and 5 of Article 30 to the incumbent President of the Republic.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal to limit the President of the Republic to a single six-year term has been linked to<b> reducing the political tensions caused by his reelection and ensuring the independenceof the institution.<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Constitutional Revision Committee is meeting today, Tuesday.
