The \u201cDAIDALOS.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cDaidalos\u201d is being implemented by the National Network for Technology and Research Infrastructure (EDYTE S.A. – GRNET)<\/b>, an agency of the Ministry of Digital Governance and Artificial Intelligence.<\/p>\n
The TOP500 and Green500 lists were published in Hamburg <\/b>by Germany<\/u><\/b>, as part of ISC 2026,<\/b> according to the relevant announcement by the European High-Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU). <\/b>\u201cDaedalus\u201d ranked 31st on the TOP500 list and 23rd on the Green500 list<\/b>, strengthening the presence of Greece on the international map of high-performance computing and energy-efficient supercomputing. It should be noted that the supercomputer to be installed in Lavrio ranks among the most powerful systems in the EuroHPC network, alongside other European supercomputers such as Germany\u2019s JUPITER, Finland\u2019s LUMI, Italy\u2019s Leonardo, and Sweden\u2019s Arrhenius.<\/b><\/p>\n
It should be noted that the \u201cDaedalus\u201d system is based on the architecture of Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) <\/b>architecture, featuring NVIDIA GH200 accelerators and direct liquid cooling technology, with a measured performance of 85.69 petaflops. This makes it the most powerful computing system in Greece to date, as well as the country\u2019s first entry on such lists.<\/p>\n
\u201cDaedalus\u201d and the new Data Center will be installed at the Lavrio Technology and Cultural Park of the National Technical University of Athens<\/b>, in the historic building of the former Power Station, a recognized monument of modern industrial heritage. The infrastructure has been designed with sustainability in mind, utilizing renewable energy sources and advanced cooling systems, with the goal of reducing energy consumption.<\/p>\n
The project is being implemented by EDYTE S.A. – GRNET, as part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan \u201cGreece 2.0\u201d<\/b>, with funding from the European Union – NextGenerationEU and the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking (JU). \u201cDAIDALOS\u201d is expected to become operational in the near future, serving the Greek and European research, academic, and scientific communities, as well as industry and the public sector.<\/p>\nThe TOP500 & GREEN500<\/h3>\n
The TOP500 list ranks the 500 most powerful supercomputers in the world based on their measured computational performance on the internationally recognized LINPACK Benchmark. It reflects the maximum relative speed at which supercomputing systems perform complex mathematical calculations.<\/p>\n
The Green500 list ranks the TOP500 systems based on their energy efficiency\u2014that is, the computing power they produce relative to the energy they consume.<\/p>\n
The presence of \u201cDAIDALOS\u201d on both lists highlights its combination of high computing power and sustainable operation.<\/p>\n
The \u201cDaedalus\u201d is a critical infrastructure for supporting advanced applications in Artificial Intelligence, scientific research, big data analysis, and innovation. Its computing power can be leveraged in fields such as personalized healthcare, climate research, public administration, cybersecurity, the Greek language and culture, and more.<\/b><\/p>\n
At the same time, it will serve as the computational core of the national Artificial Intelligence \u201cPHAROS,\u201d<\/b> which is being developed as part of the European AI Factories network, with EDYTE S.A. \u2014 GRNET, an agency of the Ministry of Digital Governance, coordinating the project, and PHAROS S.A., a subsidiary of the Superfund and the Ministry of Digital Governance and Artificial Intelligence, serving as the project\u2019s business arm.
