{"id":12564,"date":"2026-06-24T13:05:00","date_gmt":"2026-06-24T10:05:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/?p=12564"},"modified":"2026-06-24T13:05:00","modified_gmt":"2026-06-24T10:05:00","slug":"kostis-hatzidakis-the-new-democracy-partys-program-with-a-vision-for-2030","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/?p=12564","title":{"rendered":"Kostis Hatzidakis: The New Democracy Party\u2019s Program with a Vision for 2030"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The direction of the new <b>government program<\/b>, the measures for austerity, the regulation regarding<b> \u201cnon-performing loans\u201d<\/b> and the political debate ahead of the 2027 elections were analyzed by the Deputy Prime Minister, Kostis Hatzidakis, speaking on ERT News, emphasizing that <strong>the goal is \u201congoing national renewal\u201d <\/strong>combined with <strong>stability and reforms.<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure>\n<div class=\"embed-responsive\">   <\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<h3>The new program and its priorities through 2030<\/h3>\n<p>The Deputy Prime Minister made it clear that<strong> the goal is not a third term for its own sake,<\/strong> but rather serving the national interest. \u201c<strong>We are not a sports club celebrating titles.\u00a0<\/strong>The question is how we can <strong>best serve the national interest,\u201d<\/strong> he noted, adding that the new program will be based on an assessment of the previous administration. \u201c<strong>Without arrogance, let\u2019s see what went well, what went wrong, keep the good things, and correct the mistakes.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Among other things, he noted that the central focus is on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>the economy <\/strong>and <strong>productivity<\/strong>, through the use of artificial intelligence, research, and European funds<\/li>\n<li><strong>Social policy,\u00a0<\/strong>with an emphasis on housing, family support, and demographics<\/li>\n<li><strong>Regional development<\/strong> and equal opportunities for all<\/li>\n<li><strong>Institutions and governance<\/strong>, aimed at strengthening trust in the state<\/li>\n<li><strong>Foreign policy<\/strong>, defense, and energy, with \u201cresponsible patriotism\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cNew Democracy<strong> can combine the call for stability and security with the call for change.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>The arguments for a new term<\/h3>\n<p>Mr. Hatzidakis presented three main reasons why, as he said, citizens should vote for New Democracy again:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Economic performance, a reduction in unemployment, the creation of over 560,000 jobs, an increase in deposits from 136 to over 200 billion euros, a rise in investment and exports, debt reduction, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Superiority in terms of \u201cleadership\u201d and \u201cteamwork\u201d<\/li>\n<li>A realistic plan for the future<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cNew Democracy is and will remain the only party on which one can pin one\u2019s hopes.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Accuracy: measures and responses to criticism<\/h3>\n<p>Acknowledging the pressure on households, the vice president noted: <strong>\u201cThere is a problem. There are households that are struggling and cannot make ends meet,\u201d<\/strong> while he outlined the measures that have been taken:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cHousehold Basket\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Special signage in supermarkets<\/li>\n<li>Fines for price gouging<\/li>\n<li>Wage increases (minimum wage raised from 650 to 920 euros)<\/li>\n<li>\u201cHow Much Does It Cost?\u201d platform for price transparency<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>He argued that <strong>inflation is primarily an international phenomenon <\/strong>and <strong>is close to the European average.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Regarding the VAT reduction, he replied: \u201cA large portion of the reduction does not reach consumers, whereas reductions in direct taxes, by definition, go straight into their pockets.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Opposition and the Political Landscape<\/h3>\n<p>Mr. Hatzidakis criticized the opposition parties, referring to<strong>\u00a0\u201ctoxic attacks\u201d<\/strong> and \u201c<strong>populism<\/strong>,\u201d as well as <strong>\u201cfar-fetched theories.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cWe are not going to promise more <\/strong>depending on who comes in second or third. <strong>No one should play games with Greece.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Regarding the <strong>possibility of coalitions,<\/strong> he reiterated that<strong> the goal is a majority government<\/strong>, pointing out the <strong>deadlock resulting from the refusal of parties to cooperate.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>Speculation about a new party led by Samaras<\/h3>\n<p>Referring to speculation about the creation of a new political party by Antonis Samaras, the Deputy Prime Minister kept his distance, noting that the final decision rests with the former prime minister himself.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201c\u201cHe will make his own decisions and weigh the matter thoroughly.\u201d<\/strong> However, he warned of the potential political consequences of such a move, stating: \u201cIf he goes ahead with such a move, I believe it will cause <strong>some damage to New Democracy<\/strong>, but <strong>also to other parties<\/strong>, such as those of Mr. Velopoulos and Ms. Latinopoulou, but <strong>it will damage his political legacy.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mr. Hatzidakis emphasized the importance of unity within the center-right, noting:\u00a0<strong>\u201cI believe in a broad center-right bloc and in the unity of New Democracy, <\/strong>but this cannot be imposed.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>The Avramopoulos Case and Political Developments<\/h3>\n<p>Regarding the case of Dimitris Avramopoulos, he stated:\u00a0<strong>\u201cI don\u2019t know the details, but there is a document from the European Commission, and he himself is requesting the lifting of his immunity.
