{"id":12675,"date":"2026-06-24T22:12:00","date_gmt":"2026-06-24T19:12:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/?p=12675"},"modified":"2026-06-24T22:12:00","modified_gmt":"2026-06-24T19:12:00","slug":"thanasis-kontogeorgis-on-non-performing-loans-this-provision-provides-relief-to-more-than-100000-of-our-fellow-citizens","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/?p=12675","title":{"rendered":"Thanasis Kontogeorgis on non-performing loans: This provision provides relief to more than 100,000 of our fellow citizens"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>     In the <b>government<\/b> decision regarding the <strong>\u201cnon-performing loans\u201d<\/strong>, the Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister <strong>Thanasis Kontogeorgis<\/strong> noted, pointing out that \u201cwe proceeded with what we consider to be fair and a reward for consistency.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>     Specifically, speaking on Real FM, Mr. <b>Kontogeorgis <\/b>initially responded to recent allegations from opposition parties, which had questioned whether the government would implement the court ruling: The reality is that <strong>\u201cthe Ministry of Finance was reviewing the ruling\u201d<i>,<\/i><\/strong> the deputy minister explained, while also noting that \u201cwe proceeded with what we consider fair and as a reward for consistency (on the part of borrowers).\u201d <\/p>\n<p>     Specifically, <b>this particular provision \u201cgives some breathing room to quite a few of our fellow citizens\u2014about 100,000. \u201cWhatever is right, reasonable, and fair\u2014and whatever we can do\u2014we will do. We cannot do things that jeopardize many issues<\/b>,\u201d he also explained. Furthermore, refuting the assessment that the fact that the country is in an election year played a role in the government\u2019s decision, he insisted that the government remained within the parameters of the Supreme Court\u2019s ruling\u2014and \u201cthese are the options.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>     Changing the subject to the question <b>of whether the country is heading toward elections<\/b>, prompted in part by the prime minister\u2019s tours, <b> T. Kontogeorgis<\/b> responded as follows: \u201c<b>The fact that the prime minister is engaging with the public and touring the country is not something that\u2019s just starting now. It has been happening throughout the entire four-year term,\u201d reiterating that \u201cthere are ten months left until the elections<\/b>\u201d<span style=\"font-size: 16px\">.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p>     <span style=\"font-size: 16px\">However, the Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister placed great emphasis on<b> the Greek Presidency of 2027<\/b>, which <b>will not be <\/b><\/span><b>\u201ca typical Greek Presidency\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-size: 16px\">. On the contrary, it will be <\/span>\u201ca Presidency that will determine how we will live in the coming years, because that is when the European budget will be agreed upon.
