\u201cWe have converted the out-of-court mechanism<\/b><\/span> into a tool for the primary residence<\/b><\/span>\u201d<\/b>, stated Kyriakos Pierrakakis<\/span>, <\/b>referring to the new regulation regarding the loans of the Katseli Law<\/span><\/b> passed yesterday. <\/p>\n

As he noted, the out-of-court settlement <\/b>provides for up to 240 installments<\/b><\/span> <\/b>and in certain cases up to 420 installments<\/b><\/span>.<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking to MEGA<\/span>, the minister noted that there was substantial consensus <\/b>on the bill regarding private debt<\/span><\/b>, since, as he said, only 22%<\/span> of the articles<\/b> were voted down.<\/p>\n

Regarding the regulation that \u201cwaives<\/b>\u201d nearly all interest<\/b><\/span> <\/b>in the judicial loan settlements under Law 3869\/2010, Mr. Pierrakakis emphasized that the government went beyond the decision of the Supreme Court<\/b><\/span>,<\/b> by applying the provision retroactively<\/span> to all borrowers under the Katselis Law.<\/p>\n

According to him, the total cost of the measure amounts to 700 million euros<\/span>, of which 500 million<\/span><\/b> relates to universal implementation and 200 million<\/span> for retroactive coverage<\/b>, with banks covering 100 million euros<\/span>.<\/b> He also emphasized that 70%<\/span> of those who defaulted on previous repayment plans had not made a single payment.<\/b><\/p>\n

The minister characterized the private debt<\/span> primarily a social issue<\/span> rather than a systemic problem,<\/b> noting that a \u201cmiddle ground\u201d<\/span> in interventions for the benefit of society, without populism<\/span> <\/b>but with targeted legislation<\/span>.\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s easy to appeal to populism<\/b>. It\u2019s hard to perform surgical intervention.\u201d<\/p>\n
