The competition <\/b> for four-year contracts<\/strong> on the arid shipping lines, following the decision of the Court of Auditors<\/strong> allowing the opening of the files. <\/p>\n

Exception<\/b> is envelope 38<\/b> for the Kassos-Crete<\/strong> line, as an appeal is pending before the Council of State (State Council)<\/strong> by a shipping company. <\/p>\n

There has not yet been a decision on this case, but it is expected that there will be one soon. According to sources at the Ministry of Shipping<\/strong>, on 20 April<\/b> the process of opening<\/b> the envelopes<\/b> will start, in the presence of representatives of the companies. <\/p>\n

Where there is interest from more than one candidate, the bids will be examined by a competent committee. As a result, on non-competitive lines, the process will proceed without delay. <\/p>\n

Until there is a final decision from the State Council on the Kassos-Kristi<\/strong> line, the ministry will proceed with direct awards<\/strong> by mid-September to ensure service to the islands. <\/p>\n

The new framework<\/i> changes the philosophy<\/b> of contracts<\/b>.<\/b> For the first time, their duration is four years<\/strong> (1 November 2025 – 31 October 2029), instead of an annual basis. This change gives greater predictability<\/strong> and facilitates the planning of routes and investments. <\/p>\n

At the same time, financing<\/strong> is increased, with the total amount reaching 668 million<\/strong> for the four-year period. The budget covers increased operating costs and supports the connection of remote islands. <\/p>\n

A significant provision is also made for the inclusion of newbuildings<\/strong> during the contracts. This creates incentives to renew the fleet with more modern and environmentally friendly vessels<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

The new model attempts to strike a balance between social cohesion<\/strong> and market viability, while maintaining a stable ferry service. <\/p>\n

At the same time, on 24 June, a development is expected for the line Alexandroupolis – Sigri Lesvos – Mesta Chios<\/strong>, with a mandatory stop at Piraeus<\/strong>, which is also pending before the CoE. <\/p>\n

The project has been included in the Public Investment Programme<\/strong>, with a budget of 12.5 million euros<\/strong>, and aims to strengthen the economy of Evros after the 2023 fires. <\/p>\n

A weekly service is planned for three years by a barge and ferry<\/strong>, with free cargo transport. Approximately 2,000 square meters<\/strong> per route will be committed, corresponding to up to 70 trucks<\/strong>, with the possibility of loading up to 12 hours prior to departure. <\/p>\n
