A fierce attack on SYRIZA<\/strong> was launched by New Democracy MP, Giorgos Vrettakos<\/strong>, speaking on the program \u201cOra Ellados\u201d<\/strong> on OPEN<\/strong>, in response to the opposition\u2019s criticism of the government\u2019s tax policy. <\/p>\n George Vrettakos<\/strong> commented that it is ironic to accuse the government of \u201coppressive tax practices\u201d<\/strong>\u2014the spokesperson for Alexis Tsipras\u2019s<\/strong> party\u2014recalling that, as he said, during SYRIZA\u2019s<\/strong> time in government, 30 taxes and social security contributions<\/strong> were imposed, while taxes were raised on wage earners<\/strong>, pensioners<\/strong> and self-employed professionals<\/strong>. <\/p>\n At the same time, the New Democracy MP<\/strong> countered that the current government<\/strong> has implemented reduction of 83 taxes<\/strong>, arguing that the comparison between the two periods is clear. \u201cCitizens must not forget the past<\/strong>,\u201d he remarked, urging them to evaluate policies based on each government\u2019s track record. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n Vrettakos: \u201cListen to what we\u2019re going through right now: a spokesperson for Tsipras\u2019s party comes along and accuses the government of tax-grabbing practices.
