{"id":13125,"date":"2026-06-27T07:35:00","date_gmt":"2026-06-27T04:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/?p=13125"},"modified":"2026-06-27T07:35:00","modified_gmt":"2026-06-27T04:35:00","slug":"gpo-poll-new-democracy-holds-a-strong-lead-with-29-4-pasok-at-11-5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/?p=13125","title":{"rendered":"GPO Poll: New Democracy holds a strong lead with 29.4%; PASOK at 11.5%"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New Democracy is up one point in the polls, PASOK  continues its downward trend, while the party Karystianou party appears to be on the decline.<\/p>\n<p>The second polling cycle following the founding of the new parties shows ELAS led by Mr. Tsipras, a decline for \u201cElpida\u201d led by Ms. Karystianou, and a rise for New Democracy, which appears to be benefiting from the realignment of the political landscape, according to a GPO poll for the newspaper \u201cParapolitika.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the voting intention poll, New Democracy garners 29.4%, while PASOK is losing ground and stands at 11.5%.<\/p>\n<p> K. Mitsotakis, with 33%, continues to enjoy the highest level of trust among Greek citizens for the position of prime minister, followed by Alexis Tsipras, M. Karystianou with 15.5%, and N. Androulakis.<\/p>\n<p>The question was posed separately for each candidate and should not be confused with the standard question regarding suitability. 29.2% of the total, <b>an increase of approximately 2 percentage points,<\/b> would like to see New Democracy remain in government and Kyriakos Mitsotakis continue as prime minister after the next elections, a percentage that reflects and <b>describes the hard core of the ruling party and correlates to a significant degree with the electoral influence index.<\/b><\/p>\n<p> The overwhelming majority\u201468%\u2014continues to want a change in government; however, as we have pointed out in the past, this percentage is not directed toward a specific political entity that could serve as a strong alternative, but <b>is spread across all opposition parties. <\/b><\/p>\n<p>The dilemma<b> \u201csingle-party government or coalition government\u201d <\/b>continues to divide the electorate, with 48.6% favoring a single-party government, even if it means holding repeat elections, while 46.3% favor a coalition government. <\/p>\n<p><b>An overwhelming 81.9% of New Democracy (ND) voters support a single-party government,<\/b> while support for a coalition is mainly found among voters of ELAS, PASOK, and the Freedom Movement. About half of the participants (49.8%) believe that <b>a prolonged election campaign is not beneficial<\/b> and that the country should hold early elections, compared to 44.9% who believe that the government should serve out its four-year term and that elections should be held at the scheduled time.<\/p>\n<h2>Voting Intent<\/h2>\n<p>In the voting intent table, <b>New Democracy, with increased support, stands at 26% <\/b>compared to 25% in the previous poll, ELAS also increases its support from 13.2% to 14.5%, while <b>the downward trend continues for PASOK, which has fallen from 10.8% to 10.2% today. <\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>\u201cElpida\u201d has seen a significant and rapid drop of 2.3 points,<\/b> which now stands at 6.9% down from 9.2% in the first poll, while <b>the Freedom Course party also continues its downward trend, <\/b>with its share now at 3.8%.
