Although there are dozens of skydiving clubs in the country and hundreds of thousands of jumps are made each year, crashes involving aircraft carrying skydivers are extremely rare. Most fatalities in the sport involve accidents during the descent or landing, rather than the aircraft itself. <span data-state=\"closed\"><\/span> <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"687\" data-end=\"1114\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">     The most well-known such accident occurred in <strong data-start=\"740\" data-end=\"748\">1990<\/strong> near <strong data-start=\"759\" data-end=\"767\">Lance<\/strong>, when a plane carrying skydivers crashed shortly after takeoff due to engine failure, resulting in the loss of <strong data-start=\"900\" data-end=\"918\">nine people<\/strong>.
