Statements by Iranian officials regarding technical talks with Oman<\/b>, combined with warnings of unilateral actions and challenges<\/b> to international navigation regulations<\/b>, are creating an explosive diplomatic situation<\/b> that directly affects international trade<\/b>, markets for energy<\/b> and the security of maritime transport<\/b>, intensifying fears of a new phase of instability in an already sensitive region<\/b>.<\/p>\n
Specifically, Iran announced that Iranian and Omani<\/b> experts will begin technical talks in the coming days<\/b> regarding the mechanism for managing shipping in the Strait of Hormuz<\/b>.<\/p>\nThe message <\/h3>\n
Iran\u2019s Deputy Foreign Minister, Garibabadi, stated that Tehran has informed Oman that the maritime routes in the Strait of Hormuz \u201cwill have to be redefined\u201d and that technical consultations on the matter will take place.<\/p>\n
At the same time, he warned that, should Oman be unwilling to cooperate on the management mechanism, Iran will proceed with the process on its own, although, as he noted, Muscat has demonstrated a willingness to cooperate.<\/p>\n
He also stated that Iran opposes and will attempt to prevent the passage of ships through routes in the Strait of Hormuz that have not been designated by Tehran.<\/p>\n
The demining of the Strait of Hormuz is an operation that will be carried out exclusively by Iran, according to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Tehran and Washington, as Garibabadi emphasized earlier today in a post on Platform X, responding to a comment by French President Emmanuel Macron on this issue.<\/p>\n
Macron stated earlier that France and Oman are working together to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East and will collaborate with their partners to remove mines from the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n
