{"id":1572,"date":"2026-04-20T15:40:00","date_gmt":"2026-04-20T12:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/?p=1572"},"modified":"2026-04-20T15:40:00","modified_gmt":"2026-04-20T12:40:00","slug":"cigarette-smuggling-1-billion-a-year-in-losses-to-the-state-property-seizure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/?p=1572","title":{"rendered":"Cigarette smuggling: 1 billion a year in losses to the State &#8211; Property seizure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The criminal organization<\/b> smuggling cigarettes allegedly involved 38 individuals and 21 legal entities, including shipping companies.<\/p>\n<p>The money laundering authority, which is continuing its <b>investigation<\/b> into circuit of production and trafficking<\/b> of smuggled cigarettes<\/b> that was dismantled two months ago. <\/p>\n<p>The independent authority&#8217;s investigation revealed that from <b>2018-202<\/b>6 the circuit <a href=\"https:\/\/tomanifesto.gr\/zimies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">compensated the <b>Greek public<\/b>annually<b> 1 billion euros,<\/b> using &#8220;ghost&#8221; companies and issuing<b> fictitious invoices and false certificates.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>By order of the head of the authority for money laundering <b>Charalambos Vourliotis<\/b>, the following were seized:<\/p>\n<p><b>42 properties throughout Greece<\/b>. These are mainly maisonettes and luxury properties, farmland and a hotel in the Peloponnese.<\/p>\n<p><b>26 cars<\/b>, most of them very expensive, such as Porsches, Land Rovers, trucks, trailers, caravans, etc.<\/p>\n<p><b>7 boats<\/b> of which two were offered for hire, three passenger boats and three tankers ( one of them is an oil tanker).<\/p>\n<p>The criminal organisation, allegedly involved <b>38 natural persons and 21 legal entities. <\/b>Including shipping companies.
