In particular, the electronic newspaper MEDIAPART<\/b> published an article entitled “Greece hopes to strengthen its cooperation with France in the field of defence”, the newspaper said, citing Greek diplomatic sources, that given “the strong geopolitical uncertainty” and the fact that “Europe is seeking a new orientation both to strengthen its competitiveness and to formulate a more coherent defence policy complementary to NATO, Macron’s visit to Athens takes on particular importance”.<\/p>\n
Greek-French cooperation “will be at the heart of the discussions on the future of Europe and on the European defence and security framework”, the newspaper said, stressing that the visit also aims “to pave the way for further deepening cooperation in areas such as the economy, civil protection and innovation”.<\/p>\n
According to the paper, maritime security is also expected to be the subject of talks between the French President and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, with a particular focus on the Sea Strait of Hormuz<\/strong>, which has been closed due to the war in the Middle East<\/strong>.<\/p>\n As a country with a long maritime tradition and boasting the world’s largest merchant fleet, Athens is an active participant in the European Operation Shields deployed in the Red Sea,<\/strong> and Kyriakos Mitsotakis<\/strong> has made maritime security an “absolute priority” for his country, the French online newspaper said.<\/p>\n Along the same lines, an article on the website EPOCHTIMES<\/b> titled “Military cooperation: Paris and Athens seek to put their partnership on a long-term horizon” and subtitled “Macron’s visit to Athens expected to put the spotlight on strengthening and prolonging French-Greek cooperation in the fields of defence and security”, it is noted that the visit takes place in an uncertain international environment and is part of a broader debate on the future of European defence and its complementarity with NATO<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Among other things, the paper notes that – beyond the strictly military aspect – Macron’s visit is aimed at opening up new perspectives to “further deepen cooperation in areas such as the economy, civil protection and innovation”.<\/p>\n This broadened approach reflects the intention to forge a multi-dimensional relationship that goes beyond the defence framework and includes strategic areas for the two countries, the French website said, noting that the talks are expected to cover a wide range of issues linked to contemporary economic and technological priorities, while keeping defence as a central pillar of the bilateral relationship.<\/p>\n Finally, the SIX-ACTUALITES<\/b> website published an article entitled “What Athens expects from Macron’s visit” with the following introduction: “In Athens, all eyes are on Macron’s official visit: the aim is to accelerate bilateral cooperation and consolidate diplomatic relations in a European environment often characterized by volatility.<\/p>\n For Athens, this “rendezvous” is also an opportunity to strengthen the strategic partnership with Paris, support the Greek economy and strengthen regional security through joint projects of particular importance in the EU context.
