At a particularly critical juncture for US and Iran<\/b> relations, the uncertainty surrounding diplomatic contacts<\/b> is intensifying as Donald Trump<\/b> hardens his stance and raises the stakes<\/b> ahead of the end of the fragile ceasefire<\/b>, signalling that he will not succumb to pressure for a tentative deal<\/b>, while leaving clear hints of a possible return to a confrontational setting<\/b> if negotiations fail to deliver, bringing to the forefront his strong criticism of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action agreement concluded under Barack Obama<\/b>, which he considers failed and dangerous for stability in Middle East<\/b>, insisting that a new approach under his leadership could reshape the geopolitical balance<\/b> and have a decisive impact on security not only in the region but also internationally<\/b>.<\/p>\n
As the future of negotiations between the US<\/b> and Iran remains “murky”<\/b> and whether and when representatives of both sides will travel to Islamabad uncertain<\/b>, Donald Trump says he will not be in a hurry to reach a “bad deal”<\/b> and leaves open the possibility of a resumption of the conflict<\/b>.<\/p>\nNo rush<\/h3>\n
Talking by phone to Bloomberg, the U.S. president said it is “highly unlikely” he will extend the cease-fire, which expires at dawn Thursday (GMT), if no agreement is reached between the two sides.<\/p>\n
The U.S. president stressed that he does not intend to rush a deal under pressure, noting: “I’m not going to rush a bad deal. We have all the time in front of us.”<\/p>\n
Asked about the possibility of an immediate resumption of fighting if there is no deal, Trump appeared clear: “If there is no agreement, I would absolutely expect it.”<\/p>\n
Remember, however, that Trump has repeatedly changed his stance on the possibility of extending the ceasefire. Typically, last week, during a conversation with reporters, he was asked five different questions on the same issue and gave three different answers…<\/p>\n
In a new post on Truth Social, the US president argued that the deal his administration is negotiating with Iran will be “far better” than the “JCPOA” nuclear deal, which he called one of the worst agreements ever made with respect to US security.<\/p>\n
More specifically, Trump strongly criticized the agreement signed under President Barack Obama with Joe Biden’s participation, claiming it was a “sure path to obtaining a nuclear weapon” from Tehran. He stressed that this “will not happen” under the new agreement, which he said was being drafted.<\/p>\n
The US president also reiterated his claims about the financial dimension of the previous agreement, noting that $1.7 billion in cash was delivered under the JCPOA, which was transported to Iran on a Boeing 757 aircraft. According to him, this was money that was made available to the Iranian leadership without any restrictions on its use.<\/p>\n
