The fa\u00e7ade of the Greek Parliament<\/b> was lit up tonight with the message “We are here – Listen to our voice<\/b>” to mark World Parkinson’s Day.<\/b><\/p>\n

The move was made as a minimal sign of support for both patients and their families.<\/p>\n

The initiative is being carried out to inform and raise awareness in society about a chronic, progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects tens of thousands of people in Greece. It is indicative that, according to international estimates, the number of people living with Parkinson’s disease is steadily increasing, mainly due to an ageing population and environmental factors. In 2015, the number of patients worldwide was estimated at around 6 million, and forecasts indicate a significant further increase in the coming years, highlighting the need for immediate planning of health and social care policies.<\/p>\n

The Greek Parliament expresses its full support for the sufferers and reaffirms its commitment to support policies that promote public health, social cohesion and equal care for all citizens.<\/p>\n

The action is initiated by the Association of Patients and Carers PAR.KIN.S.O.N., which represents people living with the disease, their families and carers, promoting information, mutual support and patient rights.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
