He said: “Attica’s experience of successive crises demonstrates that preparedness, preparedness and metropolitan immediate operational coordination are key factors in protecting human life, property, infrastructure and the natural environment.”

Mr. Nikos Chardalias also pointed out that the transition from fragmentary interventions to an integrated European risk management system, with adequate funding, strengthening of forecasting and early warning tools, as well as closer coordination between European, national and regional levels, is urgently needed.

The meeting also focused on the debate on the new Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) for the 2028-2034 programming period. In this context, Mr.Hardalias agreed on the need to formulate a more modern, flexible and resilient CAP, which will meet the real needs of regions and producers. On issues related to maritime policy, it was stressed that the sustainability of coastal and island regions depends directly on the support of fisheries and that a more balanced approach is needed to ensure both the protection of marine resources and the economic and social cohesion of local communities.

As Nikos Hardalias said in a statement:

“The challenges facing Europe today are multi-level and interconnected. From the protection of citizens against natural disasters and the response to health crises to the sustainability of agricultural production and food safety, a coherent, ambitious and fully operational European strategy is needed.

Our experience in Attica in recent years clearly demonstrates that the climate crisis is now a daily reality that tests the strength of our infrastructures, mechanisms and societies. Fires, floods and other extreme weather events demonstrate that preparedness and speed of response are not just policy requirements, but essential conditions for the protection of human life.

Timely planning, strengthening of civil protection mechanisms and, above all, coordination through a metropolitan management model to eliminate the overlapping of responsibilities and competences can drastically reduce the impact of crises. However, no region can respond alone to challenges of this scale. At the same time, Europe must invest decisively in a strong, flexible and fully operational civil protection mechanism, with adequate resources, modern means and common protocols for action.

European solidarity comes through the immediate and common provision of available means to deal with extreme events when they occur, as well as the ability to intervene rapidly whenever the need arises. The transition from piecemeal crisis management to an integrated system of disaster prevention, forecasting and management must be a top political priority for the European Union.

The Attica Region will continue to be at the forefront of this dialogue, submitting proposals and sharing its valuable experience in managing real crises. We actively contribute to the formulation of policies that enhance the security, resilience and perspective of citizens across Europe.”

With the active participation of the Governor of Attica and First Vice President of the Group of the European People’s Party in the European Commission of …

[3

post-1700","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-politics
["GET
