As part of its strategic plan, the CER<\/b>is accelerating the development of clean energy<\/b> by investing in renewable energy sources and modern infrastructure that support the transition to a more sustainable energy model.<\/p>\n
This is what DEI<\/b> said in a statement on the occasion of the World Earth Day<\/b> (22 April), in which it confirms complete de-lignification by the end of 2026<\/p>\n
As it stresses:<\/b><\/p>\n
“The PPC Group’s strategy is aligned with the objectives of the<\/b> Paris Agreement and the European Green Deal, <\/b>confirming its role as a leader in the energy transition in Southeast Europe and reinforcing its commitment to sustainable development and environmental responsibility.<\/p>\n
With the motto for 2026 “Our Power, Our Planet”,<\/b> World Earth Day continues to call for collective action, highlighting the need to accelerate action on the environment and strengthen sustainable practices. In this context, it calls on citizens, institutions and educational communities to actively contribute to the protection of the environment through information, awareness raising and participation in actions that promote responsible use of natural resources and support for clean energy.<\/p>\n
In the updated Strategic Plan for 2026-2028<\/b>, PPC is proceeding with the further development of its renewable energy portfolio, with the aim of reaching 12.7 GW of installed renewable energy capacity by 2028, strengthening its green footprint and its position in the wider region of Southeast Europe.<\/p>\n
At the same time, the Group is making steady progress towards full de-globalisation<\/b> by the end of 2026, having already achieved a 58% reduction in CO\u2082 emissions from power generation in 2025 compared to 2019 and aiming to achieve long-term climate neutrality by 2040, as part of its overall strategy for a more sustainable and resilient energy transformation.<\/p>\n
In this context, the Group is on a steady path to reduce by 85%<\/b> its greenhouse gas emissions in the period 2019-2028, confirming its firm commitment to reduce its environmental footprint.<\/p>\n
The goal of PPC is to create shared value for the economy and society, taking into account the needs of all stakeholders, while contributing substantially to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).<\/p>\n
The PPC Group is committed to drastically reducing direct CO2 emissions from electricity generation, contributing substantially to the reduction of Greenhouse Gas emissions.<\/b><\/p>\n
The Group has set a very high bar<\/b> on sustainability issues and is steadily on track to achieve its targets. The international Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), following a thorough assessment process, has validated the validity of the PPC Group’s short- and long-term targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. According to SBTi, the targets submitted by the Group are fully aligned with the 1.5\u00b0C warming limitation target under the Paris Agreement, as well as with achieving full climate neutrality across the value chain. Specifically, the approved targets, which have a base year of 2021, include:<\/p>\n
Reduction<\/b>73.7% and 98.6% of Scope 1 & Scope 2 GHG emissions<\/b> per MWh produced by 2030 and 2040, respectively.<\/p>\n
Reduction of 73.7% and 98.4% of Scope 1 & Scope 3<\/b> per MWh produced by 2030 and 2040, respectively. 3 GHG emissions per MWh sold by 2030 and 2040, respectively.<\/p>\n
Reduction of 42% and 90% of absolute GHG emissions in all other Scope 3 categories by 2030 and 2040, respectively.<\/p>\n
