On Thursday 23 April, the President of France<\/b> Emanuel Macron<\/strong> will hold an official visit<\/b> to the Cypriot Republic<\/b>, in a move of particular political and symbolic significance.<\/p>\n This is the first official bilateral visit by a French President<\/strong> since the establishment of the Republic of Cyprus, a fact that adds a historical dimension to Macron’s presence on the island.<\/p>\n The visit is expected to confirm the exceptional level of relations<\/strong> between France and Cyprus, and comes in the context of strengthening cooperation in critical areas such as security, energy and regional stability.<\/p>\n The French President’s visit comes at a time when relations between the Republic of Cyprus and France are at their highest level since the signing, in December 2025 in Paris, of the upgraded Strategic Partnership between the two countries, as well as the 2026-2030 Action Plan, which has formed a coherent framework for strategic cooperation in a wide range of sectors. Of particular importance is the fact that this is President Macron’s second visit to Cyprus in just 45 days, a fact that reflects the strategic proximity, the convergence of views and the common will to further deepen the cooperation between our countries.<\/p>\n During the visit, the two Presidents will have a private meeting at the Presidential Palace and will then chair expanded talks between the delegations of the two countries<\/b>. The discussions are expected to focus, inter alia, on the progress in the implementation of the Strategic Partnership, on further strengthening cooperation in the fields of energy, defence and regional security, as well as on issues related to the European agenda and cooperation in the context of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union. <\/p>\n The President of the Republic will also brief President Macron on the latest developments in the Cyprus problem<\/b> and on the efforts made by the UN Secretary General, with France remaining firmly and over time in favour of efforts to resolve the Cyprus problem on the basis of the relevant UN Security Council Resolutions.<\/p>\n The central axis of bilateral relations between the Republic of Cyprus and France remains cooperation in the fields of defence and security<\/b>. France is one of the most important and reliable partners of the Republic of Cyprus, both bilaterally and within the framework of the European Union. This cooperation is based on common values, mutual respect and strategic convergence on European and regional challenges, while France’s recent practical support confirms the importance it attaches to the security of Cyprus and the Eastern Mediterranean. In this context, Nicosia attaches particular importance to the institutional and practical strengthening of the European Union’s mutual assistance clause, in accordance with Article 42.7, as an essential pillar of the Union’s strategic autonomy.<\/p>\n After the conclusion of the talks, the two Presidents will make statements to the media<\/b>.
