The plenary session of the House of Representatives today (Wednesday) will discuss the waiver of immunity of 13 ND party MPs<\/b> mentioned in the two new files on the OPEKEPE.<\/p>\n

The debate and decision is scheduled for 12 noon, and a nominal electronic vote is expected to take place.<\/b><\/p>\n

The Ethics Committee<\/b> has unanimously advised the lifting of the immunity of all 13 ND MPs, something they themselves requested either in person (K. Tsiaras, N. Mitarakis, Ch. Athanasiou)<\/b> to the Committee, or through a memorandum they sent.<\/p>\n

The requests for waiver of immunity concern the following ND MPs:Katerina Papakosta, Kostas Ach. Karamanlis, Giannis Kefalogiannis, Noti Mitarakis, Kostas Tsiaras, Kostas Skrekas, Dimitris Vartzopoulos, Maximos Senetakis, Lakis Vassiliadis, Christos Boukoros, Theophilos Leonontaridis, Charalambos Athanasiou and Tasos Hadjivassiliou.<\/b><\/p>\n

The first 11 requests for immunity relate to the ND MPs included in the docography sent by the European Public Prosecutor’s Office<\/b> for the OPEKEPE case, nine of whom are requesting the waiver of immunity in order to be checked for the possible crime of incitement against the interests of the EU to the degree of misdemeanour, while two (Katerina Papakosta and Kostas Ach. The requests for the waiver of immunity of ND MPs Charalambos Athanasiou and Tasos Hadjivassiliou relate to the file sent by the judiciary for the investigation of evidence of the offence of incitement to breach of duty, to the degree of a misdemeanour.<\/p>\n

Proceedings<\/h3>\n

According to the Rules of the House<\/b> and the scheduling of the debate and decision by the House, if the listed Members wish to address the House on their case, they will have five minutes with a small allowance of another two additional minutes to enable them to complete their statement. Immediately afterwards, the floor will be given for seven minutes to political leaders or party parliamentary representatives. After the debate is over, the electronic system for the roll-call vote will be opened, where each Member will have to vote in favour of lifting or not lifting immunity for each of the 13 Members individually. Postal votes will also be accepted.<\/p>\n
