A 30-minute meeting between Minister of Justice Giorgos Floridis<\/b> and the head of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office Laura Covesi.<\/b><\/p>\n
Giorgos Florides reiterated the position of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis<\/b> not to gradually transfer dicographies in which political figures are allegedly involved, such as the case of OPEKEPE<\/b>. Laura Covesi agreed with the position and pledged to look into the matter.<\/p>\n
The Ministry of Justice will bring a complaint<\/b> to Parliament to expedite judicial proceedings in cases where political figures are involved.<\/p>\n
On the issue of the extension of the term of office of the three Greek appointed European prosecutors, Popi Papandreou, Hariklia Thanou and Dionysis Mouzakis<\/b>, which has been a major topic of interest in the news lately, Ms. Kovesi asked when the decision of the Supreme Judicial Council for Civil and Criminal Justice (SCC) is expected. The answer of both Mr Florides and the Deputy Minister of Justice, Ioannis Bougas, was that it is estimated that the decision of the CAC will be made within the first 15 days of next month.<\/p>\nProsecutors’ tenure<\/h3>\n
It was also reported that following the decision of the College of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office for a 5-year extension of the tenure of the three European Public Prosecutors in question, the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, after consultation with the Ministry of Justice, sent a relevant question to the ACA, just as a similar question was submitted by the Ministry of Justice to the ACA.<\/p>\n
Moreover, the Ministry of Justice sent a second question to the ACA on the three new posts of European Public Prosecutors recently created, although the ACA is not expected to cover them at its meeting next month.<\/b><\/p>\n
The meeting was also attended by the Head of the Executive Office of the European Public Prosecutor, Ms. Milan Jaron<\/b>and the assistant prosecutor of the Supreme Court, Eleni Karkabouna, head of the Office of the European Public Prosecutor in Athens.<\/b><\/p>\n
The head of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, Laura Covesi, on entering the Justice Ministry, said: “Thank you for coming, I will be meeting with three ministers: Justice, Interior (ed: Citizen Protection) and Finance. As I said last time, some promises have been made. We have come to see what the situation is. There is a lot of noise around our affairs but tomorrow I will be able to say more.”<\/p>\n
