Accusingly denied any involvement in an illegal act<\/b> the Member of Parliament<\/b> for Heraklion Maximos Senetakis<\/strong>, during his statement in the plenary session of the Parliament<\/b>, in the context of the procedure for the waiver of immunity<\/b>.<\/p>\n

Mr. Senetakis<\/b> said that “I have not committed any illegal or criminal act”<\/strong>, noting that he considers it his duty to make himself available to the competent authorities<\/b> in order to fully clarify the case.<\/p>\n

The investigation concerns a possible accusation of incitement to harm the interests of the EU<\/b>, to the degree of a misdemeanour<\/b>, as revealed in a file from the European Public Prosecutor’s Office<\/b> that has been forwarded to the Parliament.<\/p>\n

The MEP said he was surprised to be informed that his name was included in the dicografia<\/b>, explaining that the case is based exclusively on a telephone communication<\/strong> he had with the then administrator of OPEKEPE<\/b>.<\/p>\n

As he argued, his intervention was limited to conveying a farmer’s<\/b> request, which he said was legitimate, reasonable and procedural in nature<\/strong>, without any illegal payment of money being sought.<\/p>\n

“I simply submitted the request and asked that it be considered, without applying pressure or asking for exceptional service<\/b>,” he noted, adding that it does not appear from the conversation that there was any action that resulted in an illegal payment<\/b>.<\/p>\n

Addressing his colleagues, Mr. Senetakis<\/b> stressed that he never committed the offence for which he is being investigated<\/strong>, urging them to look at the whole conversation and not fragmentary elements.<\/p>\n

He asked for a vote to lift his immunity<\/b>, noting: “At a time when trust in institutions is being tested, I feel it is my duty to be scrutinised like every Greek citizen, so that there is not the slightest doubt about my innocence<\/b>.”<\/p>\n
