Socrates Famellos “<\/b>all the surplus to be given for the suspension of VAT on food and medicines, for a reduction of the VAT and the 13th pension”, the minister argued that such an option is outside the European framework. At the same time, he cited Bank of Greece<\/b> data showing that just 19% of a VAT cut ultimately reaches the consumer.<\/p>\nOn the flip side, the government’s option is to directly aid citizens, such as pensioners and tenants, <\/b>so that the benefit reaches income directly without “leaks<\/b>“. The economic staff insists that the surplus is returned to society in a way that is compatible with European rules and aimed at stability and debt reduction.<\/p>\n

“Mr. Famellos’ proposals are charm<\/b>. Today he distributed only three billion. By the elections<\/b> I guess he will have to distribute Fed<\/b> to make the Syriza<\/b> government program.<\/p>\n
But to answer seriously: what Mr. Famellos says violates the European rules. All of what Thanos Petralias<\/b> was just describing is the new European framework.<\/p>\n
So, I ask, then, in answering, that Mr. Famellos tell me on what legal basis he could also give the 2.9 billion<\/b>, which is the extra that we are describing. Because we said today that this space is plus 1 billion; we are keeping about 200. We have already given the 300 and we are announcing another 500. The 1 billion is what we are allowed by the European budgetary rules. The rest goes basically to debt.<\/p>\n
This is the logic of all these rules: you service the debt at the same time, so you move in a way that the European rules say. If this is what Mr Famelos wants to violate, he should tell me on what legal basis<\/b> he will do so. Given, of course, that he also comes from a political area which is used to violating<\/b> European rules.<\/p>\n
Also, because I saw his proposal, he says he will reduce and go all this money in VAT. <\/b>We made an option today to give it directly to citizens: pensioners,rent reimbursement. <\/b>When we – let me say it again – we have the Bank of Greece study that says if you cut VAT, 19% gets to the people who see it. The rest stays.<\/p>\n
How will the leader of Syriza convince businesses to get the whole amount to the citizen? Like Xerxes whipping the waves at Ellespont will he do it? <\/b>What is the mechanism for doing it? Because no European democracy has invented it to date. So they will have to somehow demonstrate<\/b> it to us.<\/p>\n
To answer seriously: we have a very important international crisis<\/b> on our hands, which all European economies are managing. And while this is going on, Greece comes here today and makes announcements with its economic staff and talks about how the economy is outperforming and this is going back to the world. In a lawful, European and orderly way. <\/b>That’s how we got the country out of the crisis.
