Positive assessment of the Greek economy<\/b> by the Commission<\/b>.<\/p>\n
On the progress of the Greek economy<\/b> and the new disbursement of funds from the Recovery Fund<\/b> was mentioned by Vice President of the European Commission<\/b> Valdis Dobrovskis<\/strong>.<\/p>\n As he underlined, the Greece is now among the strongest performing economies in the European Union<\/b>, attributing this development to the implementation of significant reforms and investments in recent years.<\/p>\n Special mention was made of the 7th disbursement<\/b> of \u20ac1.18 billion<\/strong> from the Recovery Fund<\/b>, which further strengthens financing<\/b> of the Greek economy<\/b>.<\/p>\n In his remarks following his meeting on Thursday afternoon in Athens with Kyriakos Pierrakakis<\/b> and the political leadership of the ministry’s National Economy and Finance<\/b>, the vice-president of the Commission stressed that “the conflict in the Middle East<\/strong> is casting its shadow, sending energy prices soaring<\/strong> across Europe and the world”.<\/p>\n He pointed to “a real risk of stagflation<\/strong> in the short term”, stressing that “our response, in addition to short-term measures, must be to continue hard work for a more competitive and resilient European economy<\/strong>“.<\/p>\n In this context, as Valdis Dombrovskis<\/b> underlined, “we can all learn something from Greece’s decisive reform efforts<\/strong> over the last decade. They laid the foundations for sustainable recovery<\/strong>, so today Greece is among the strongest performing economies in the EU. As a result, the Greek economy has grow<\/strong>, while public debt<\/strong> and unemployment have fallen<\/strong>“.<\/p>\n He noted, however, that “of course, much remains to be done” and that reforms<\/strong> that can help maintain positive momentum were discussed, such as interventions for the business environment<\/strong>, public administration<\/strong> and the judicial system<\/strong>, as well as investments<\/strong> in energy efficiency, electrical interconnections and digital skills<\/strong>.<\/p>\n “As we approach the final straight for the TDCA<\/strong>, Greece must remain fully focused on accelerating the implementation of the plan<\/strong>,” he said. “We have only four months left and we have discussed how to ensure timely implementation of all resources<\/strong>. It is vital that the project reaches its full potential.”<\/p>\n From a fiscal perspective, he welcomed the fact that “Greece maintains a stable fiscal position<\/strong> and that the 2025 results are more positive than expected<\/strong>“. He said fiscal consolidation is based on strong revenue growth<\/strong>, through measures to combat tax evasion<\/strong> and undeclared work<\/strong>.<\/p>\n In conclusion, Mr. Dombrovskis<\/b> underlined the contribution of Kyriakos Pierrakakis<\/b>, in his capacity as President of the Eurogroup, to important initiatives on the international role of the euro<\/strong>, the digital euro<\/strong> and the combining savings and investment<\/strong>. “We are moving in the same direction … I look forward to continuing to work closely with you in the years ahead,” he said.<\/p>\n From the Greek side, Kyriakos Pierrakakis<\/b> spoke of an economy growing at about twice the European average, achieving stable surpluses and recording the largest deceleration of public debt in Europe, with unemployment near historic lows.
