<strong data-start=\"6\" data-end=\"28\">common tolls<\/strong> on <strong data-start=\"43\" data-end=\"84\">improving energy interconnections<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"93\" data-end=\"137\">infrastructure energy and transport in EU<\/strong> were presented by <b>Eliza Vozemberg-Vryonidi<\/b> as Chair of the Committee on Transport and Tourism and <b>Dimitris Tsiodras<\/b> as a member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy of the European Parliament. <\/p>\n<p data-end=\"557\" data-start=\"0\">The amendments concern the Connecting Europe Facility, the <strong data-start=\"427\" data-end=\"461\">EU financial programme<\/strong> that supports investment in <strong data-start=\"489\" data-end=\"527\">cross-border energy infrastructure<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"532\" data-end=\"554\">transport infrastructure<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"559\" data-end=\"953\">In their amendments, SW MEPs note that the <strong data-start=\"623\" data-end=\"664\">improvement of energy interconnections<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"673\" data-end=\"699\">transboundary infrastructure<\/strong> can play a <strong data-start=\"724\" data-end=\"744\">decisive role<\/strong> in <strong data-start=\"749\" data-end=\"779\">reducing energy prices<\/strong> for consumers, in <strong data-start=\"807\" data-end=\"851\">addressing the significant fluctuations<\/strong> in energy prices between EU Member States and in <strong data-start=\"913\" data-end=\"950\">completing the Energy Union<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"955\" data-end=\"1390\">At the same time, they tabled amendments that the programme should respond to the <strong data-start=\"1056\" data-end=\"1125\">specificities and needs of less connected regions<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1131\" data-end=\"1158\">remote regions<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"1167\" data-end=\"1177\">islands<\/strong>, and financially support the development of <strong data-start=\"1225\" data-end=\"1272\">transnational projects with a focus on ports<\/strong>, with the aim of <strong data-start=\"1286\" data-end=\"1321\">improving competitiveness<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1327\" data-end=\"1340\">safety<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"1354\" data-end=\"1387\">connecting them with the hinterland<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1392\" data-end=\"1773\">Additionally, the programme should take into account that some Member States in the periphery of Europe may need <strong data-start=\"1522\" data-end=\"1582\">additional investment to enhance connectivity<\/strong> with the continental part of Europe and ensure that <strong data-start=\"1640\" data-end=\"1693\">right of accessibility for people with disabilities<\/strong> throughout the <strong data-start=\"1709\" data-end=\"1741\">European Transport Network<\/strong> and on all means of transport.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1775\" data-end=\"2139\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">Finally, the Greek MEPs of the New Democracy, with their amendments, stressed that the <strong data-start=\"1874\" data-end=\"1907\">transport infrastructure of the Union<\/strong> must allow for the <strong data-start=\"1933\" data-end=\"2015\">rapid and efficient movement of military personnel, material and equipment<\/strong>, in particular in regions such as the <strong data-start=\"2043\" data-end=\"2055\">Balkans<\/strong> and the <strong data-start=\"2062\" data-end=\"2085\">Eastern Mediterranean<\/strong>, given the <strong data-start=\"2101\" data-end=\"2138\">immediate proximity to third countries<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A series of
