The need for immediate consensus<\/b> between US<\/sup><\/b>and Iran<\/b>, Prime Minister<\/b> Kyriakos Mitsotakis<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In an interview<\/b> with Breitbart News<\/b> on the sidelines of the Delphi Economic Forum<\/b>, he stressed that such a development is crucial for terminating the war in the Middle East<\/b>.<\/p>\n

The prime minister noted that a deal will also be instrumental in restoring stability to energy<\/b> markets, which are under pressure due to prolonged tension in the region.<\/p>\n

In his interview, Mr. Mitsotakis<\/b> expresses hope that US President Donald Trump will be able to reach a deal with Iran<\/b> that includes the opening of the Hormuz Strait<\/strong>. At the same time, it refers to Donald Trump’s upcoming visit to Greece, stressing that the US president “will have a great time<\/strong>“.<\/p>\n

Matthew Boyle, the journalist who interviewed the Greek prime minister, notes that the statement comes about a year after Mr. Mitsotakis’ statements about a win-win agreement<\/b> between the US and the EU, an assessment that was confirmed by the signing of the agreement by Donald Trump<\/b> and Ursula von der Leyen<\/b>. In his new intervention, the prime minister returns, expressing hope for a similar development in US-Iran<\/strong> relations, stressing that the focus now shifts to economic implications and diplomacy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

“Hopefully there will be some form of agreement on the situation in the Middle East<\/b>, as we are all concerned about the economic implications<\/strong>,” he said. “From the beginning we have been clear that Iran cannot acquire a nuclear weapon<\/strong>, and as a country in the region we are concerned about its destabilizing role<\/strong>. However, we have reached a point where we should be particularly concerned about the economic consequences<\/strong> of the situation.”<\/p>\n

The Prime Minister also pointed out that developments in Iran and the Straits of Hormuz<\/b> highlight the need for Europe to become more energy self-sufficient<\/strong>. In this context, he stressed that Greece is moving forward with natural gas exploration through partnerships with ExxonMobil and Chevron<\/b>.<\/p>\n

“This is a bell for Europe<\/strong> to become more realistic and more practical in terms of energy transition,” he noted. “We have supported both renewable energy<\/strong> and natural gas<\/strong>, proving that they can co-exist.”<\/p>\n

Referring to Transatlantic relations<\/strong>, Kyriakos Mitsotakis<\/b> said the Iran crisis does not drive away but brings Europe and the US closer<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

“I believe this crisis will eventually bring the US and Europe<\/b> closer together,” he said. “The transatlantic alliance<\/strong> still has much to offer.”<\/p>\n

He also made special reference to the bilateral relations between Greece and the US<\/strong>, which he described as stronger than ever<\/strong>, noting that Donald Trump<\/b> is expected to visit Greece soon.<\/p>\n

“I can guarantee that he will have a great time<\/b>,” he said, adding that “Greeks are proud of their hospitality<\/b>.”<\/p>\n

The prime minister underlined the historical ties<\/strong> between the two countries, Greece’s geopolitical role in the Eastern Mediterranean<\/strong>, as well as the importance of the IMEC corridor for the India-Middle East-Europe link.<\/p>\n

In terms of energy, he noted that contracts with ExxonMobil and Chevron have already been signed and that the first exploration activities<\/strong> are expected in the first quarter of 2027. “If successful, it will be a decisive development for Greece and Europe<\/strong>.”<\/p>\n

Finally, he referred to Greece’s role as a mediator in regional crises<\/strong>, stressing the importance of the two-state solution<\/strong> for the Middle East and the need for progress in Gaza to ensure more stability in the region<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
