{"id":2283,"date":"2026-04-23T19:45:00","date_gmt":"2026-04-23T16:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/?p=2283"},"modified":"2026-04-23T19:45:00","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T16:45:00","slug":"lefteris-gavalas-narrates-his-lifes-relationship-with-the-piano-and-classical-music-video","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/?p=2283","title":{"rendered":"Lefteris Gavalas narrates his life&#8217;s relationship with the piano and classical music (video)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On the occasion of the recital that <b>pianist Lefteris Gavalas<\/b> will give tomorrow Friday at the <b>Cultural Conference Centre of Heraklion, Crete, <\/b>he <b>was <a href=\"https:\/\/tomanifesto.gr\/kriti\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">interviewed<\/b> by Crete TV and journalist Christiana Skoura.<\/p>\n<p>Answering a question about <b>the programme he will perform,<\/b> Lefteris Gavalas said that <b>the works span from Bach to Hatzidakis,<\/b>that is, they cover a period of more than two hundred years. A period that for music, as the pianist says, is quite long. <\/p>\n<p>The programme he will present begins with Bach&#8217;s <b>Bach&#8217;s Second Partita,<\/b> a work of six dances, continues with Beethoven&#8217;s <b>Last Sonata,<\/b> &#8220;a deeply existential work&#8221;, written a hundred years later and while the great composer was in complete deafness, then he will perform Mendelssohn&#8217;s <b>Fantasia,<\/b> a romantically classical work.<\/p>\n<p>The recital will conclude with Manos Hadjidakis&#8217;s <b>Ionian Suite,<\/b> a work that, as Lefteris Gavalas says, gives him great joy when he performs it, and perhaps this joy was one of the reasons why last year <b>he won the Manos Hadjidakis 100 Years Anniversary Prize<\/b> at the international piano competition De Bach au Jazz.<\/b><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<div class=\"oembed_media\" data-emebed-provider=\"YouTube\">\n<div class=\"dp-youtube-video dp-embed-video\" data-embed=\"8bxzWb8ObsU\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/8bxzWb8ObsU?feature=oembed\">\n<div class=\"play-button\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>As Lefteris Gavalas explains, the Ionian Suite is one of Manos Hadjidakis&#8217; first works, number seven in his oeuvre, &#8220;when the Greek composer was still looking for what direction to take, <b>a work that has both classical form, and Greek dances, and a part he calls an aria that has elements of opera.&#8221; <\/b><\/p>\n<p>When asked by the presenter if this recital is aimed at audiences who are familiar with classical music, the pianist replied that <b>&#8220;the music is aimed at all people who have a little space in their souls to listen to musical landscapes even if they don&#8217;t know them.
