Everyone is waiting for the nod Tsipras. Those who have already packed their bags for departure, those who have already written the libs for the departures and are preparing to take the keys to the shop, the others who are crying their fate. And in the middle, Socrates Famellos. Caught between the institutional role of SYRIZA president and that of his political friend Alexis Tsipras.

<h3

Fugitive forces

In the party that once ruled the country, the atmosphere is clearly divisive. The centrifugal forces that developed after 2023 and the double electoral crash are completing their work. With a global political oddity they are throwing headlines and… derailing SYRIZA towards its base. The small protest party of 3%. The Syriza and the ruling Left are shutting down indefinitely…

The information and rumors of acceleration of the new Tsipras party are also prompting those who were waiting in their corners to raise their hands and rush to declare themselves ready for the rally. He wants them, doesn’t the… general? Who knows, I wonder?

“Something has to be done, or SYRIZA will go into self-dissolution or secession.” With this thought, sitting deputies announce that they are taking their hats off and leaving for Amalia Avenue. Symeon Kedikoglou and Andreas Panagiotopoulos make the start.

The former expressed publicly, in a radio interview, his intention to resign and join the Tsipras party and spoke about the climate in the Parliamentary Group of the once ruling Left. “It is a transitional period where, apart from the cadres, the people of Syriza have their eyes on what Alexis Tsipras will do.”

For his part, the MParliamentarian for Achaia and health of the party, closed any other discussion or possibility: “I will be with Tsipras, one way or the other,” he said.

The calculations have begun…

The loss of the role of official opposition that typically came with the successive disruptions is finalized with the pulverization of the parliamentary power by the eventual withdrawal of 17+ MPs and leads the party to historic shrinkage and eventual dissolution!

The trigger for the countdown in SYRIZA and in New Left was probably given by his close associate A. Tsipras, Giorgos Vassiliadis, who implicitly but clearly proposed the disintegration of the two parties, in order to proceed with the reconstitution of the progressive space.

His response to the reporter’s question whether, in order to reconstruct the space, everything must be dismantled to start over is telling: “Can you see anything different? Do you see something different? The conversations we have with people in our social circle, in our wider social circle each and every one of us show it. The public opinion polls show it.”

The leadership groups Syriza and New Left have shown their annoyance as they should under… protocol. Paul Polakis went ballistic and screamed about self-justification because he himself had understood early on the plans and antics of Tsipras and had denounced them. And in Syriza, where mutual suspicion is entrenched and the villages are fighting for their own agendas, the question is one: who does and does not want their former leader with him. In the New Left, however, Alexis Haritsis has left the presidency, giving more space to the… activism of Gavriel Sakellaridis.

<h3

Famellos in a quagmire

The calculations give and take. Tsipras has sent the message that anyone who wants to follow must resign their seat, as he did.

First reports reveal that 17 Syriza deputies are heading to Amalias. Among them are Olga Gerovassili, Dionysis Kalamatianos, Pope Tsapanidou, Giorgos Karameros, Katerina Notopoulou, Christos Giannoulis, Vassilis Kokkalis. As if ready for a long time and Alexis Haritsis, Efi Achtsioglou, Nassos Iliopoulos, Ozgur Ferhat, Hussein Zeibek from New Left.

Socrates Famellos, by virtue of his role, remains the key holder of SYRIZA. Although his relations with Alexis Tsipras are good, he is bound to be the last to close the door on the old party, with his request (and wish, possibly) to ensure institutional continuity until the final breakup and the… integration.

The data under development is confusing. Alexis Tsipras with his “Ithaca” has shown his willingness to draw a divide from his past. He sent his former comrades to his “exile” of “Pallas“, and declared himself unwilling to enter into group negotiations with SYRIZA and NEAR, referring to “perishable products” which, even if added together, will still remain perishable.

<h3

Then the tone dropped and Tsipras began to unfold a vision of joint travel. In the end, what does he really want and what is most conducive to his political project?
