Uncertainty prevails in contacts between the United States and Iran, as the two sides give different accounts of whether progress will be made. <\/p>\n

The White House<\/strong> said that envoys Stiv Whitcoff<\/strong> and Jarrett Kushner<\/strong> are travelling to Pakistan<\/strong> to participate in peace talks with the Iranian side. <\/p>\n

Although Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi<\/strong>, is in Islamabad<\/strong> for talks, Iranian media make it clear that no meeting with US officials is planned. <\/p>\n

Specifically, according to Tasnim<\/strong> and Nournews<\/strong>, any communication will be through Pakistani mediators<\/strong>. This limits the chances of immediate progress. <\/p>\n

The ambiguity around contacts is not new. Lately, there have been frequent conflicting reports about whether the two countries are talking. <\/p>\n

In late March, Donald Trump<\/strong> spoke of “productive talks”. At the same time, Tehran<\/strong> denied it. However, an Iranian source admitted there had been some contact<\/strong>, leaving open the possibility that proposals could be considered. <\/p>\n

High-level talks were held in early April in Pakistan<\/strong>, with no agreement. <\/p>\n
