The debate on Greece’s place on the international educational “map” is returning dynamically, with an emphasis on partnerships, foreign language programmes and new structures. <\/p>\n

Specifically, the prospect of Greece becoming a international education hub<\/strong> was the focus of the Delphi 2026 Economic Forum. In the panel entitled “Greece: An Emerging Education Hub”, government officials and academics analysed the next steps. <\/p>\n

Education Minister Sofia Zacharaki <\/b>noted that the timing is right for a more systematic approach<\/strong> to internationalisation.<\/b> He said the country can start as a regional pole<\/strong> and develop into a international study destination<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

He then stood by the operation of non-state universities<\/strong>, admitting that the start was challenging. But she stressed that an alternative option<\/strong> for studies<\/b> within Greece is now given. At the same time, he referred to new partnerships<\/strong> and the strengthening of foreign language programmes<\/strong>, which form a more attractive environment. <\/p>\n

Particular reference was made to the Recovery Fund<\/strong>, as a key financing tool for internationalisation. The said minister also emphasized student daily life<\/strong>, highlighting the need for better infrastructure and safer spaces. <\/p>\n

For his part, the rector of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Kyriakos Anastasiades<\/b>, argued that Greece is not starting from scratch. He said the goal is to return<\/strong> to the role it has historically played as a center of education. <\/p>\n

He referred to a “mosaic” of activities including student mobility<\/strong>, international networks, graduate programs and new programs. He singled out the 17 foreign-language undergraduate courses<\/strong> being prepared at the institution as a key tool for attracting students from abroad. <\/p>\n

In the same vein, the managing director of the University of Nicosia,<\/b> Antonis Polemitis<\/b>, appeared positive about the developments. He stressed that students first choose object of study<\/strong>, then country<\/strong> and then foundation<\/strong>. This, he said, means that a total effort is needed to make Greece more attractive<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

He also pointed to the link between studies and the labour market. Students’ choices are directly related to career prospects<\/strong>, which should be taken into account in programme design. <\/p>\n

A similar approach was taken by Ioannis Thanos, associate professor at the Athens University of Economics and Business<\/b>.<\/b> As he said, universities have to balance between critical thinking<\/strong> and the skills that the market demands<\/strong>. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
